Longmirecreator Craig Johnson wants to revive the six-season Western as it prepares to leave Netflix. Developed for television by John Coveny and Hunt Baldwin and based on Johnson’sWalt Longmire Mysteries, the series debuted on A&E in June 2012 and moved to Netflix for its final three seasons. The story centered onstar Robert Tayloras the unassailable Walt Longmire, the charismatic sheriff of Wyoming’s Absaroka County, with a cast that included Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Bailey Chase.
Johnsonresponded in a Facebook post to the news thatLongmireis soon leaving Netflix, with its last day being December 31. The author mentioned that Paramount+ was the new home of the Western, though he also criticized Netflix’s decision. Johnson mentioned thatLongmirestill drew good viewership and revealed that he was canceling his Netflix subscription. So, I’m to understand that Netflix is officially dropping Longmire from its lineup at the end of the year even though the show is still alive and well in the ratings.
