Ke Huy Quan is getting back into the action genre with theLove Hurtstrailer. Hailing from stunt and fight coordinator-turned-director Jonathan Eusebio, the movie stars Quan as mild-mannered real estate agent Marvin who, after receiving a mysterious note, finds the secrets of his criminal past coming to light and is thrust into a fight for survival against his brother and the various men he sends after Marvin. With a few months remaining until the movie’s release,Universal Pictureshas released the firstLove Hurtstrailer. The video starts out by introducing viewers to Quan’s Marvin, showcasing his popularity in his neighborhood and the extent of his success as a realtor, winning multiple awards. Things suddenly take a shift when, while sorting through his mail,Marvin finds a letter with the eponymous title written on the outside, and the only thing written inside is “Hiding ain’t living”, flashing to him saying the same thing to DeBose’s character, Rose, while dressed in a far slicker attire.

What The Love Hurts Trailer Says About The Movie

Ke Huy Quan Finally Gets The Spotlight

Love Hurtslooks to be continuing Quan’s resurgence with acting afterhis Oscar-winning return inEverything Everywhere All at Once. Interestingly, the trailer also points to the film replicating some of what worked about the 2022 multiverse dramedy in casting Quan as a mild-mannered character who suddenly shows an incredible ability to fight, even if the plot explanation for this is different between the two. That said, it does see the star utilizing the same martial arts skills he showed inEverything Everywhere All at Once, notably the scene in which he fought off multiple people with a fanny pack.

Every Ke Huy Quan Movie, Ranked Worst To Best

Loki star Ke Huy Quan is enjoying a career resurgence following his Oscar win with a starring role in the MCU, but he’s also in some great movies.

In addition to Quan’s ongoing popularity, theLove Hurtstrailer also showsproduction company 87North Productions looking to continue the success of their one-man-army-fighting formula. Co-founded byThe Fall Guy’s David Leitch and his wife/producing partner Kelly McCormick, the studio has been behind the likes of Bob Odenkirk’sNobody, whose sequel recently wrapped filming and is set for an August 2025 release, andDavid Harbour’s Christmas comedyViolent Night, which also has a sequel in development.

Much like these prior films, Leitch’s stunt-driven storytelling is clearly on display in theLove Hurtstrailer, made all the more impactful with Eusebio making his directorial debut in the action-comedy.Eusebio is a longtime collaborator of Leitch, having worked with him and hisJohn Wickco-director Chad Stahelski on300as well asThe Expendables, The AvengersandDoctor Strangeas a fight coordinator. Eusebio was even the fight coordinator on the first threeJohn Wickmovies, and stunt coordinator on both Leitch’sDeadpool 2andViolent Night, having a grip on the studio’s formula of absurd fight sequences grounded in reality.

Our Take On The Love Hurts Trailer

Quan Could Have A Franchise In His Hands

While it remains to be seen if the film proves original enough to stand apart from its genre companions, theLove Hurtstrailer is certainly a promising sign of the movie continuing both Quan and 87North’s recent winning streaks. ConsideringNobody 2is finding a wayto expand upon its seemingly well-concluded original, the new action-comedy’s success could even see Quan get a franchise of his own to lead if it proves to be a hit. Given how much work he’s done to establish himself as a powerful performer after a near-20-year-acting hiatus, I would love to see him get the opportunity to carry on a character beyond a single project.
