Summary
Star Warssubtly introducedLuke Skywalker’s Jedi Templeinto canon in the sequel trilogy, but its location, revealed later, is one of the best Legends Easter eggs in the entire new canon. Luke’s New Jedi Order was a huge part of theLegends timeline, but hasn’t been nearly as present in modern storytelling. In the sequels, the new Jedi had already been brought down by Ben Solo, as he turned into Kylo Ren near the end of theNew Republic era.
But canonically, Luke began his training temple sometime after 9 ABY, as he’s seen building the first hut inThe Book of Boba Fett, of all places. Luke’s temple would gain several more students by 15 ABY, and by 21 ABY, it became a thriving temple, with older students beginning to instruct younger ones. The novelShadow of the Sithby Adam Christopher not only reveals this, but also confirms that the temple was located on the planetOssus.

Ossus Is A Library World Of The Jedi In Legends & Canon
The Legendary Tales Of The Jedi
The comic seriesTales of the JediandDark Empiretogether established the Outer Rim planet Ossus as an ancient Jedi world. It was attacked during theGreat Sith War, leading to its abandonment and a later cataclysm turning the lush planet to ruin. But most importantly, during its heyday, Ossus was a center of knowledge for the much more decentralized Jedi Order of theOld Republic era.
This caused Ossus to be abandoned for thousands of years, up until the period immediately after the Yuuzhan Vong War.During this reconstruction period, Luke Skywalker reclaimed the planet for the Jedi, building a new temple there for his New Jedi Order. This is why Ossus is so important when reintroduced into the new canon.

The 10 Best Star Wars Legends That Have Been Brought Back Into Canon
With the rich history of Star Wars Legends, it was always only a matter of time before some of these incredible ideas became part of canon!
Luke Skywalker’s Canon Jedi Order Was Based On Ossus For This Reason
Not Yavin 4, Not Coruscant
In Legends, Ossus is a planet with a significant Jedi history, and has been slowly restored to that status in canon. This has involved RPG supplements, but also tie-in materials forStar Wars:The Rise of Skywalker, which state that Luke got some of the Sacred Jedi Texts from Ossus in ruined and abandoned libraries. Most significantly, however, Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Temple is not where it was first located in Legends.
In Legends, Luke took advantage of the already built temples on Yavin 4, where theRebel Alliancewas based during the Battle of Yavin, for his training grounds. This allowed for a head start to the Order not seen in canon.Shockingly, canon stories did not choose this same location, despite its familiarity and marketability, instead choosing a more obscure planet like Ossusthat had even more Jedi history from the oldStar WarsExpanded Universe.
