My Deer Friend Nokotandelivered another wonderfully weird episode with episode #7, andepisode #8is sure to be a great follow-up. Between the great comedy of the old formula and some fresh comedy from a few new additions, episode #7 had a lot going on for it, and it was easily one of the anime’s best outings yet.

My Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #7, much like other episodes, was focused primarily onall the weird things that happen in everyone’s daily lives with Nokotan. As with other episodes, that was expressed through a variety of skits where Nokotan would do one weird thing after another, but for the first time in weeks, one segment ofMy Deer Friend Nokotanhad a new take on the show’s typical style of comedy.

What Happened In My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode 7?

Produced By Wit Studio; Directed By Marina Maki

In the first segment ofMy Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #7, “DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, and Such,” Nokotan entered the Deer Collection, a contest to determine the best deer in the world, and enlisted Koshitan as her partner under the promise of it being a good way to get funds for the Deer Club. Despite her initial confusion about the event, Koshitan quickly became enamored with their routine and got better with every practice session. Unfortunately,Nokotan and Koshitan lost the Deer Collection to a random pair of an old man and his deer, all of which happened offscreen.

In the second segment, Koshitan, in another attempt at earning funding, tried live-streaming the Deer Club’s activities, and things quickly escalated out of control when Nokotan’s antlers grew into a massive, sentient being that threatened to entangle the entire clubhouse. Koshitan tried to cut the antlers off with a saw, but at the last second, the antlers fell off on their own, and the entire event was attributed to the natural process of deer antlers falling off when they got too big. Koshitan’s efforts only embarrassed herself, but fortunately,Koshitan’s live-stream went viral and the Deer Club got more funding.

In the final segment, Koshitan and Nokotan went to a cafe run by Tsubameya’s brother, Yoshiharu. Yoshiharu made it his mission to be hospitable to every one of his patrons, but thanks to Nokotan’s bizarre behavior, he could never find a way to satisfy her. Nokotan told Yoshiharu not to try so hard when he was already doing such a good job with the cafe, and as Yoshiharu told Nokotan he would give her an even better experience next time,Koshitan was left with no idea what was going on between Nokotan and Yoshiharu as the episode ended.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Might Have Finally Explained Why It’s So Weird

During the first segment ofMy Deer Friend Nokotan, Nokotan made Koshitan have a vision of everything they’d done together through dance, and Koshitan was convinced that it was an illusion brought about by the power of their bond. As such, all the bizarre things Nokotan does inMy Deer Friend Nokotanmight just be illusions created by the bonds she shares with others, making her little more than a quirky girl with antlers. The nature of the series means that that could mean nothing, but it would be an interesting way of rationalizing the surrealness of the story, regardless.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Has A Small, But Engaging Twist On Its Formula

My Deer Friend Nokotanepisode #7 was another episode filled to the brim with great comedy. Between the ridiculous training for the Deer Collection only for it to just not happen and the most surreal utilization of Nokotan’s antlers yet, theMy Deer Friend Nokotananimecontinued to excel with its standout dialogue and surreal visuals and animation. Even with the series being more than halfway over, it’s shown no signs of slowing down, and that’s great to see.

The biggest standout of episode #7, however, comes from the last segment with Yoshiharu. With Yoshiharu being a new character,My Deer Friend Nokotanused Yoshiharu as an effective means of showing how someone removed from the story would react to Nokotan, even when she’s acting relatively normal, and the comedic delivery of Takuya Eguchi, best known for voicing Loid Forger inSpy X Family, perfectly sold that idea. It made for a style of comedy thatMy Deer Friend Nokotandoesn’t usually engage with, and it played a big part in why the episode was so fun to watch.
