Deku has been using One for All as well as he can for the entirety of the series. He’s the ninth wielder of the quirk and has been gradually gaining access to the previous users' abilities. He finally has access to all of the other quirks before his fight with Shigaraki, allowing him tocreate one of themost powerful attacksthe series has shown so far.By combining his quirks Fa Jin and Gearshift, he can create immense power seemingly out of nowhere. He uses the two quirks together to create the Overdrive ability and deliver a blow that exceeds his own limits:120% Detroit Smash.

The animation during this fight was supreme.The artist behind it is Hirota Kohei, a young animator who started his career by posting fanart ofOne PieceandMy Hero Academia, and made his professional debut on the staff of theOne Pieceanime while still a student. Kohei is famous for his use of lightning, and it truly shows in this scene. While Deku uses his abilities,he’s bathed in a prismatic hue of brilliance.He radiates every color there is while he’s flying at Shigarki and his eyes emit an incredible blue-green light.

Bones knocked it out of the park with this episode, bringing one of the best fights inMy Hero Academiato life through pristine animation and keen audio. Deku uses all of his quirks together to land a battle-defining blow on Shigaraki. He uses Smokescreen to evade him, Float to get an angle, Danger Sense to detect him, Blackwhip to get a hold of him, and finally, a brutal combination of Fa Jin and Gearshift to attack. Watching Midoriyafinally use all of his quirks together after all this time was incredibly satisfyingand Bones' top-tier animation made it even better.

This confrontation between Deku and Shigaraki (whose body is now almost completely possessed by All for One) is one of the true climaxes of the whole series, masterfully crafted and delivered by Horikoshi in the manga. Seeing that the production studio put that much effort into bringing the author’s vision to life must feel incredibly rewarding to fans ofMy Hero Academia, who can still enjoy their favorite series weekly, despite its recent conclusion.
