Pokémon Gois growing even bigger as developerNiantic confirms that more Dynamax Pokémon will be added to the mobile game shortly. A recent addition, Dynamax Battles function almost identically to Raids but provide players with a chance to catch the colossal variants upon victory. Some may feel the feature is more a gimmick than anything else, but at the very least Niantic is planning on expanding it even further with extra Pokémon to fight and capture.

Per the officialPokémon Goblog, Niantic confirmed thatSword & Shieldstarters Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey will appear as Dynamax Pokémon from October 1. The trio will be accompanied by Falinks who will feature in three-star Dynamax Battles while the others will be available in one-star Battles. What’s perhaps most exciting is that because Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey all have evolutions, these stages will also be able to Dynamax, meaning players who want to build a team dedicated to bringing down the towering Pokémon have even more options; Falinks, on the other hand, does not have an evolved form.

Dynamax’s Implementation Has Been Weird

It All Feels A Little Clumsy

The addition of the Dynamax mechanic toPokémon Gohas, admittedly, been slightly odd. Many fans believe the system should have been introduced alongsideSword & Shield, which was released a couple of years afterPokémon Go, but at that stage the mobile game likely didn’t have the necessary infrastructure to pull off the addition. Niantic also opted to launch the feature withWooloo and Skwovetas the first two Dynamax Pokémonrather than the Galar Starters.

This strategy puzzled many butthe release of the Gen 1 Starters as Dynamax Pokémon ahead of Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey further frustrated fansgiven that the mechanic is explicitly linked to Galar. Why Niantic has waited several weeks to finally add theSword & ShieldStarters to the Dynamax pool remains unknown. ThePokémon Gocommunityhas also complained about the fact that the Dynamax Battles play almost identically to Raids, making them feel like an inessential addition to the game.
