The new casting choice for the upcomingPeaky Blinderscould not be more perfect. After years of speculation and being stuck in a stagnant development process, Netflix finally greenlit the highly anticipatedPeaky Blindersmoviein June 2024. Since then, the project has picked up major steam after confirming thatOscar-winner Cillian Murphy(Oppenheimer,Inception,The Dark Knight) will bereprising his role as the iconic Tommy Shelbyand newcomer Rebecca Ferguson (Silo,Dune,Mission: Impossible) will star in the film alongside him.

While Ferguson’s character in thePeaky Blindersmovie is being kept under wraps, the movie is expected to pick up where the original series' sixth and final season concluded back in April 2022. It hasyet to be confirmed whether Tom Hardy will returnto portray hisPeaky Blinderscharacter Alfie Solomons, although with the confirmation of Murphy, Ferguson, and now Oscar-nominee Barry Keoghan (Saltburn,The Banshees of Inisherin,Masters of the Air), chances seem as high as ever.

Barry Keoghan Is Amazing Casting For The Peaky Blinders Movie

Keoghan has a wide range and a natural, captivating aura

It’s always fascinating to watch Keoghan onscreen because of his ability to go full-blown Oliver Quick inSaltburnat seemingly any moment.

Irish actor Barry Keoghan has officially joined the cast of the Peaky Blinders movie and I could not be more excited to see how his character shapes up. He is truly one of the most ideal actors to pair alongside Murphy’s Tommy Shelby since Keoghan has quickly proven himself to be versatile and captivating in both leading and supporting roles. It will be interesting to see whether his character will be a friend or foe to Shelby sinceKeoghan is excellent at playing both heroes and villains.

Keoghan first rose to prominence as the eerie and vindictive Martin in Torgos Lanthimos' unsettling 2017 filmThe Killing of a Sacred Deer. Like the movie or not, Keoghan’s performance is one of the clear highlights of the film anddemonstrates an uncanny mastery of tension and subtle cues of misdirection. He has also played well-intentioned characters, such as George inDunkirk, Druig inEternals, Dominic Kearney inThe Banshees of Inisherin, and Lt. Curtis Biddick inMaster of the Air. It’s always fascinating to watch Keoghan onscreen because of his ability to go full-blown Oliver Quick inSaltburnat seemingly any moment.

Barry Keoghan’s New Rotten Tomatoes Success Proves Saltburn Isn’t The Best Thing To Watch Him In Right Now

I Was A Little Worried About Peaky Blinders' Movie, But Now I’m Convinced

Ferguson and Keoghan now add much-needed reassurance

My only apprehensions about thePeaky Blindersmovie were about it living up to the expectations and hype of the original series and whether it’ll work as a movie after succeeding as one of the best gangster series of all time. With Ferguson and now Keoghan on board,I now feel like there’s really no way they can mess this up, which is a major sign of relief.

It’s always a risk to extend a series after it ends so welland I always ask myself whether it’s really necessary. WithEl Camino, for example, theBreaking Badmovie that follows Jesse after the series finale, I think I liked the idea and anticipation of watching newBreaking Badcontent more than the reality of it. WithPeaky Blinders, however, the film seems to be on the right track, which makes me more excited than ever.
