A newStar Warsconcept film has been released, and I’ve never seen a better case for an official live-actionClone Warsproject. Although Lucasfilm made 7 seasons of the animatedClone Warsseries between 2008-2020, there are still so many stories left to tell from such a pivotal period in theStar Warstimeline. To that end, this new short film starring Obi-Wan Kenobi’s 212th Attack Battalion is truly something special.

Created by a team known asHoplite VFX, this group of artists spent a year creating the short concept film known as “The 212”, inspired by the clone troopers under the command of General Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars.Despite coming in at just under three minutes, this newly released video features one of the most intense and captivatingStar Warsaction sequences between the clones of the Galactic Republic and the droids of the Confederacy of Independent Systems:

General Grievous and Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Led by the fan-favoriteCommander Cody, this small force of clones know how to get the job done, even as they come face to face with none other than General Grievous by the video’s end, leaving viewers begging for more (myself included).

The 212 Short Film With Commander Cody Is Spectacular

Top to bottom,The 212is on a whole ‘nother level. The level of detail is extremely impressive, as are the action sequences when this small contingent of troopers inadvertently triggers the countermeasures of a large droid foundry. Likewise, it’s pretty fun to see nods to movies likeAttack of the Clones, like when a super battle droid knocks aside a stunned B1 standard model.

10 Star Wars Characters Whose Stories Were Completely Changed By George Lucas’ Clone Wars

Star Wars: The Clone Wars greatly expanded the prequel trilogy era but also made significant changes to many of its established characters.

This new concept short film couldn’t have ended on a better note either. Having dispatched the entire battalion of droids, the 212 cautiously enters the open hangar door before they are quickly attacked by Grievous himself. As such, it’s a wonderful cliffhanger that very much left me hoping for a second chapter, perhaps one that sees General Kenobi arriving at the battlefield to buy his men time ahead of an extraction.

I’m Convinced: We NEED A Live-Action Clone Wars Series Or Movie

It Would Be All Kinds of Epic

At any rate, it’s short films like this that absolutely support the argument that we really do need some sort of live-action series or movie in theClone Warsera. The flashbacks to the Clone Wars in 2023’sAhsokawere a good start. However, the hope would be that we’ll one day get a project that’s fully dedicated to bringing major conflict during the Clone Wars to life, just like Hoplite VFX has done with their new short.
