At its core, thePunisherhas always been a story of retribution – and now former Punisher writer Matthew Rosenberg is taking the lessons he learned about writing a revenge tale and applying it to his newImage Comicsseries,We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us. Frank Castle stops at nothing to get retribution for the deaths of his family; similarly, Rosenberg’s new miniseries blurs the lines between love and vengeance.

As first announced by The Hollywood Reporter,We’re Taking Everyone Down With Usre-teams Rosenberg with artist Stefano Landini; the pair tackled Punisher together in the mid-2010s, ushering Frank Castle from a street-level antihero intothe wider Marvel Universe.

In other words, Rosenberg and Landini know a thing or two about revenge on a grand scale. They’re tapping into all that experience for this new book, and pouring it into a thirteen-year-old girl named Annalise, who, like Frank Castle, is out to avenge her fallen family.

After his wife and child were brutally killed, Frank Castle turned his life into a brand of savage vigilante justiceby becoming the Punisher. While much of that time was spent as a solitary antihero, using violence to cut a path through the criminal underworld, writers Matthew Rosenberg and Stefano Landini were instrumental in bringing Frank out of the streets and into Marvel’s larger superhero and supervillain stage. Regardless of how grand the scale grew, however,Punisher remains a character rooted in the concept of revenge. Rosenberg and Landini’s new miniseries is set to breathe new life into that idea.

AsWe’re Taking Everyone Down With Us’screator explained:

There’s only so many great motivating factors in stories and the most powerful ones are love and revenge, so when you can have a story that has both…We wanted to do a pretty brutal revenge story that has a lot of love and compassion and see how those ideas touch each other.

Published by Image Comics,We’re Taking You Down With Uspicks up with the young teenager, Annalise, whose mad scientist father has just been killed. With only his bodyguard robot to assist her, she’s pitted against the world’s greatest spy and the deep, entrenching ideas of compassion, love, revenge, and all the ways those intersect. The series combines those themes with a world of futuristic concepts, making it something both familiar and wholly original, and quickly vaulting it to the top of many comic-fans must-read piles for 2025.
