5 Canceled Pixar Movies That Should Happen
Let’s dive into the five best canceled Pixar movie ideas - and why they should happen today.
Releases In 2025
Dream Productions
Set in the whimsical world of Riley’s mind, this Inside Out spin-off series follows the crew at Dream Productions, the studio responsible for creating Riley’s dreams and nightmares. As they craft cinematic experiences each night, the team faces unexpected challenges, blending humor and creativity in a vivid exploration of the subconscious.
Out of all of the upcoming Pixar movies and TV shows, the least exciting one isDream Productions.Dream Productionsis a spinoff of Pixar’s belovedInside Outfranchise, following up on the massive box office success ofInside Out 2. The Disney+ series is centered around the titular dream movie studio from theInside Outuniverse, with it focusing on the characters who produce Riley’s dreams each night. However, after the usual dreams stop working for Riley, the cast and crew at Dream Productions have to figure out how to evolve their projects for Riley.

Dream Productionscould still be really good, but when comparing it to some of Pixar’s other upcoming projects, it just isn’t as exciting. 2024’sInside Out 2already filled theInside Out-shaped hole in audiences' hearts, and while the project is undoubtedly meant to coincide with the release of the sequel, this inherently makes it less exciting. On top of that,Dream Productionswill focus on new characters within theInside Outuniverse, meaning that the mainInside Outcast probably won’t be playing a significant role in the show’s story.
The one thing that is incredibly exciting aboutDream Productionsis that it will be a mockumentary. This is a new format for Pixar, meaning thatDream Productionscould be modeled after other incredibly popular mockumentary shows likeThe OfficeandParks and Recreation.

Toy Story 5
Cast
Toy Story 5 follows Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang as they confront a new challenge to playtime posed by advanced technology. Set to release in 2026, this installment continues the beloved Toy Story series with its familiar cast facing modern dilemmas.
Pixar has announced that the next installment in theToy Storyfranchise is in the works, with this being theupcomingToy Story 5. Very few details are known regardingToy Story 5’s story, although it was announced at D23 2024 that the movie would feature the mainToy Storycast facing off against an army of malfunctioning Buzz Lightyear toys. The film also seems to be teasing that Woody will reunite with the rest of Andy’s former toys at some point inToy Story 5, bringing the main cast back together after the ending ofToy Story 4.

The story details that have been revealed makeToy Story 5the least exciting of Pixar’s upcoming movies, as it seems to be a retread of what the franchise has done before. Buzz Lightyear has played the role of an antagonist inToy Story 2andToy Story 3, sohaving another batch of Buzz Lightyear villains inToy Story 5isn’t anything new. On top of that, having Woody reunite with Buzz and the gang completely undoes the ending ofToy Story 4, which is a bit sad. Many fans were already hesitant aboutToy Story 4afterToy Story 3, and the fifth movie is just repeating this.
Despite there being some red flags, all four of theToy Storymovies have unquestionably been quality films, with them being better than the average animated movie. TheToy Storymovies are synonymous with quality, and it seems unlikely that Pixar would drop the ball with the fifth film. AlthoughToy Story 5may not be the most original thing, it could still turn out to be a great time.

Will Pixar Ever Let Go of The Toy Story Franchise
Today at Screen Rant, we look at the Toy Story franchise’s future and whether Pixar will ever let go of it.
Elio
Elio follows the journey of a space enthusiast who embarks on a cosmic adventure, encountering eccentric alien lifeforms and facing an intergalactic crisis. During this odyssey, he attempts to forge new friendships and discovers his true identity in the universe. Released in 2025, the film explores themes of self-discovery and friendship.
Eliois the next Pixar movie that is set to release, and we are pretty excited to see the new film. Thefirst trailer for Pixar’sEliois already out, giving a first look at the exciting new film.Eliowill follow the titular young boy as he accidentally gets abducted by aliens, with him discovering a massive interplanetary organization known as the Communiverse. These aliens mistake Elio for the ambassador of Earth, and while the Earthlings try to get Elio back home, Elio makes waves in this all-new alien world.

Eliois an original property from Pixar, which is always exciting. Recent Pixar movies likeInside Out 2andLightyearhave overshadowed the more recent original properties likeLuca,Turning Red, andElemental. However, seeing new ideas and stories get the big-budget animated treatment is always an exciting thing, which is whyEliois higher up on this list than some of the other projects. The first trailer forElioshows off a lot of creativity and charm, meaning that the movie could be another Pixar classic if it does well upon its release.
Since so much is already known aboutElio,it is slightly less exciting than some of Pixar’s more mysterious projects. There aren’t a lot of questions left to be answered aboutElio, with many fans mostly just waiting around for the movie to finally release in June 2025.

Release Date TBA
Incredibles 3
Incredibles 3 is the anticipated continuation of Pixar’s animated superhero saga, following the Parr family as they balance their normal lives with their fight against crime. The film reportedly focuses on the familiar themes of family unity and heroism, furthering the beloved series' legacy.

Almost nothing is known about the story ofIncredibles 3, but director Brad Bird has been confirmed to return for the third film, meaning that the same creative visionary will be behind the upcoming third film.

The world ofThe Incredibleshas so much potential, and it is fantastic news to hear that the wait forIncredibles 3probably won’t be nearly as long as the wait forIncredibles 2was. Since so little is known about the film, there is room for all kinds of speculation and hype. Some fans are hoping thatIncredibles 3will age up characters like Dash and Violet, some are hoping that new superheroes will be introduced, and some are hoping that more classic characters can return. Although a release date hasn’t been announced,Incredibles 3is easily one of the most eagerly awaited Pixar movies.
The one thing that hinders the excitement ofIncredibles 3a bit isIncredibles 2.The critical reception ofIncredibles 2was more mixed than the stellar reception ofThe Incredibles, with some considering the sequel to be a letdown. Luckily, Pixar is undoubtedly aware of this, and it seems unlikely that the studio would release another sequel that has the potential to disappoint fans ofThe Incredibles.
Hoppers
Hoppers follows animal lover Mabel as she employs groundbreaking technology to transfer human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals. Her aim is to communicate with beavers, leading to the discovery of unexpected mysteries within the animal world.
Of all of Pixar’s movies, the most excitingupcoming film from the studio isHoppers.Hoppersis one of the very few original projects that was first announced at D23 2024, with the strange premise getting the film a lot of attention.Hoppersfollows a young girl named Mable who manages to put her mind into the body of a robotic beaver, allowing her to infiltrate the world of beavers and unite the animal kingdom against the plans of a real estate developer.
Hopperscomes from director Daniel Chong, with it being the first movie that he has directed while at Pixar. Chong is behind the hit animated seriesWe Bare Bears, and the quality of that show and its spinoff movie immediately makesHoppersincredibly exciting. The art that has been shown off forHopperslooks gorgeous, with it having a unique style and fantastic character designs.Hoppersalso has an impressive cast, with the film featuring the voices of Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda.
As has already been mentioned, any original project from Pixar is incredibly exciting, and this is even more the case forHoppers.Hoppershas the potential to be an incredible film, with it being one of the most exciting upcoming projects from the studio.
