Pokémon Trading Card Game Pockethas announced its first expansion,Mythical Island. Pokémon TCG Pocketis a bonafide hit with 60 million downloads since its official launch in late October. The game has kept players occupied withseveral new events, including the release of a series of promo cards featuring a mix of new cards, and existing cards, and alternative art. However, players have mostly looked ahead to the release ofPokémon TCG Pocket’s first new set, which developers promised would be released prior to year-end.
Today,Pokémon TCG Pocketrevealed a first look atMythical Island,the first expansion forPokémon TCG Pocketwhich will feature brand-new cards. Revealed for the set are new cards like Mew ex and Aerodactyl ex, as well as brand-new alternate art cards. The set will be released on December 17. The first trailer forMythical Islandwas shared via the officialPokémon TCG Pocketaccount on X earlier today.
New Set Will Contain 80 Cards, Including Fan-Favorite Pokemon
The new set will contain over 80 cards, with confirmed cards that include Mew ex, Aerodactyl ex, Morelull, Snivy, Vaporeon, Dedenne, Tauros, and Magmar, as well as new trainer cards featuring Blue and Leaf. Based on the promo art, it’s assumed that Serperior, Gyarados, Liepard, and Volcarona will also have cards in the set. One of the most intriguing cards in the set is Aerodactyl ex, which has an ability that prevents opponents from evolving their Pokémon. That will make Basic Pokémon cards like Mew ex, Pikachu ex, and Mewtwo ex even more prominent in the metagame.

For players who are logging in daily,Genetic Apexhas just about run its course. If players have opened two - three packs a day since launch, they likely have either completed theGenetic Apexbase set (not including alternate art cards) or only have a few more cards left to grab.
Mythical Islandcomes at the perfect time to reinvigorate collectors and offer more deckbuilding options for players. I’m particularly excited to see what cards shake up the metagame and whether anything can topplePikachu ex’s strangleholdas the top deck inPokémon TCG Pocket.
