A datamine ofPokémon TCG Pocket’s newest update has revealed the next launch dates for the game’s next two card sets. This week marked the launch ofSpace-Time Smackdown, the game’s first full expansion. With over 200 cards in the set, opening card packs and determining the strongest decks should keep players busy for a few weeks. However, a recent datamine of the game’s latest update offers a glimpse into the future.

As broken down byPokémon Zone, the datamine indicates thatthe next mini-set, codenamed “A2a,” will be released on February 28. This mini-set should be an equivalent to Mythical Island, although we don’t know if it will be larger or smaller than the previous mini-set. Meanwhile, the next full set, codenamed “A3,” will be released on April 30. As with all datamines, players should take these dates with a grain of salt until they are officially released.

What The Timing Of Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Next Sets Mean

Pokémon TCG Pocket Due To Release Four Major Sets Per Year

The alleged timing of the two new sets gives players a bit of insight intoPokémon TCG Pocket’s future plans. The first is thatPokémon TCG Pocketappears to be sticking to the cadence of four major set releases per year, with one release every three months. However, the mini-sets released in between major releases don’t seem to be as fixed in stone. For reference,Mythical Islandcame outsix weeks after the launch ofGenetic Apex, while the next mini-set will be released only four weeks afterSpace-Time Smackdown.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Fans Discover Perfect Easter Egg Hidden in Space-Time Smackdown Cards

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s new Space-Time Smackdown set has several cards that combine together to form a location from the Pokémon games!

Of course, the timing of the “A2a” set also nicely lines upPokémon Day 2025, which will fall on February 27. It wouldn’t be surprising ifPokémon TCG Pocket’s developers moved up the release date of the next set to line up with the annual celebration ofPokémon Red & Green’s launch date. A previous datamine also revealed that developers were planning on giving out Genetic Apex packs to every player with a guaranteed 4-diamond card or better in each pack.

Our Take: Already Looking Forward To The Future Of Pokémon TCG Pocket

Challenges & Opportunities Ahead

WhileSpace-Time Smackdownhas barely begun, I’m curious to see how the game will grow over the next few months. The new mini-set will likely include Arceus, but I’m also interested in how the game will manage a two-month gap between new card releases. Giventhe underwhelming revealof events thus far,Pokémon TCG Pocketwill have to really spice things up in April or it could lose some of its playerbase once they run out of cards to collect. I’m expecting the next mini-set to be larger to make up for the smaller release ofSpace-Time Smackdown.
