Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket’s newest set of cosmetics pays homage to a classic trainer from the original games in an interesting pose. In addition to collecting new cards,Pokémon TCG Pocketalso provides players a chance to collect a variety of different cosmetic items to display during matches. Usually, these cosmetics have some sort of unifying theme, with some sets focused on a specific Pokémon and other sets focused on specific trainers from the games.
As part of the newCharmander and Squirtle Wonder Dropevent,Pokémon TCG Pockethas added several new backdrops, coins, and other cosmetic items. A total of seven new cosmetics will be released, including a coin and emblem featuring Blastoise, a binder, mat, and card sleeves featuring both Blastoiseand the trainer Blue from the originalPokémon Red and Bluegames, and two card backdrops. One of the card backdrops features a temple theme, while the other features fan-favorite character Blue. You can see images of Blue below, thanks toPokeGirlLauren.

When Will Pokémon TCG Pocket Add Other Trainers From Games?
Blue Is The First Trainer To Have Flair That Doesn’t Require Premium Currency
As to why Blue and Blastoise are featured in this event, both the Pokémon and Trainer have appeared recently in other in-game events or sets.Blue was a featured Trainer in theMythical Islandsetand Blastoise is featured in a still-running Blastoise Drop event that focuses on solo battles. Blastoise also received a new alternate art promo card as part of theBlastoise Drop event, which features solo battles against decks built around Blastoise.
Two Unexpected Cards Have Emerged as Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Mythical Island’s Top Cards
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is seeing some unexpected cards jump into relevance, including cards that some dismissed as too weak or unwieldy.
The biggest takeaway from the new Wonder Pick event (other than Blue showing off his backside to fans) is thatPokémon TCG Pocketis starting to add Flair related to popular trainers. Prior to the release of the Blue-themed flair,Pokémon TCG Pocket’s only trainer-related Flair (outside of Emblems) featured Erikaand could only be purchased using premium currency. This event is a sign that other trainers, like Sabrina, Giovanni, or Leaf, could eventually make their way onto card sleeves and mats.

Our Take: Smell Ya Later, Blue
Pokémon TCG Pocket Should Feature More Trainers, But Blue Is A Solid Start
Blue is an interesting choice forPokémon TCG Pocket’s first trainer-focused event. Blue is definitely a popular trainer, as he was the rival character in the original Pokémon games and was prominent in the official manga, but he’s probably best known for being the trainer most associated with Blastoise. I personally like that the game focuses on the wider franchise rather than just Pokémon.
One of the best parts of the physicalPokémon TCGis that it brings NPC characters from the game to lifein card art in ways that the games sometimes miss. Hopefully, we’ll see this trend continue inPokémon TCG Pocket, although maybe with the trainers in less interesting poses.
