The depiction of the couple holding hands inDarkest Hour#1 confirms what seemed to have been implied for some time.

In the originalMighty Morphin' Power Rangerstelevision series, Rocky and Adam were always depicted as close friends, having moved from Stone Canyon to Angel Grove together for the Team Ninja Competition, and subsequently replaced original Power Rangers Jason and Zack on the team at the same time. They continued to be frequently paired together onscreen and in Boom! Studios subsequent lore-redefining comic book run,it seems like there were repeated subtle suggestions that the two were more than just friends and teammates.

In the lead-up to the comic series' conclusion, both were kidnapped by Dark Specter, sharing a cell together before they were brainwashed intoDark Specter’s Zombie Army. When Aisha broke their spell, the way both Rangers fell appeared as if they were reaching out for each other’s hands. Subsequently, another detail that might have been easy to miss came when the Rangers checked on Rocky, while he was suffering from PTSD; afterward, all but Adam left Rocky’s house. The depiction of the couple holding hands inDarkest Hour#1 confirms what seemed to have been implied for some time.

As unexpected as Rocky and Adam’s relationship becoming canon within the franchise might be to some, it is a welcome addition to the franchise, and a great evolution of their long-time dynamic.
