Summary

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #129!Sometimes, two separate franchises that will likely never get an official crossover just belong together, and one such example isScooby-DooandFive Nights at Freddy’s. Both are primarily set in an ‘amusement park’-style location made for kids, both utilize masked bad guys hiding dark mysteries, and both have Matthew Lillard in their live-action adaptations. And while they probably will never get an official crossover, fans are about to be treated to the next best thing.

In a preview forScooby-Doo, Where Are You?#129 by Derek Fridolfs and Valerio Chiola, Fred takes the Mystery Gang to his favorite childhood restaurant, Pizza Playhouse, to celebrate a job well done after solving a slew of mysteries. Pizza Playhouse was basically a Chuck E. Cheese, but with an elephant mascot instead of a mouse.

When they get there, however, Fred is disappointed to find that the children’s restaurant has closed down, and a sports bar opened in its place. And it seems Fred isn’t the only one disappointed by this development, as the new restaurant, Munch Madness, is being terrorized by a sinister version of the Pizza Playhouse’s former mascot, Elliott the Elephant.

Scooby-Doo’s Latest Mystery is Basically the Plot of Five Nights at Freddy’s

A Chuck E. Cheese-alike children’s restaurant that’s closed down, and its location is now ‘haunted’ by a corrupted, decrepit version of its mascot? That’s the plot ofFive Nights at Freddy’s. Well, aside from the child murder, supernatural soul-bonding, and an insidious serial killer, anyway. But, strictly broad-strokes, this newScooby-Doomystery is undeniably reminiscent ofFive Nights at Freddy’s, and the villainous Elliott the Elephant is definitely the biggest reason why.

Like Freddy Fazbear of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza inFive Nights at Freddy’s,Scooby-Doo’s Elliott the Elephant is hellbent on terrorizing anyone who steps foot in the location of the former Pizza Playhouse. In fact, the situation inScooby-Doomight be even more terrifying, since that location is open for business as another restaurant, meaning Elliott the Elephant is guaranteed to collect victims, while Freddy Fazbear has to settle for security guards hired to watch over an abandoned building.

Five Nights at Freddy’s Teases Scooby-Doo and the Gang Might Have More in Store for Them

InFive Nights at Freddy’s, Freddy Fazbear is far from the only mascot/animatronic that is terrorizing people, as the entire cast of the fictional band that would play for kids’ birthday parties at Freddy Fazbear’s is included in the terrifying lineup. WhileScooby-Doofans only see Elliott the Elephant in this preview being a menace in the present day, the flashback to Fred’s childhood shows Elliott was far from the only mascot in the restaurant, meaning each one is prepped to make their horrific return - just like inFive Nights at Freddy’s.

Obviously, the horrors that Elliott the Elephant will bring about inScooby-Doowill be nothing compared to those shown inFive Nights at Freddy’s, but the fact that there are so many similarities is exciting for fans of both franchises. It’s almost like a G-rated crossover, allowing fans to see howScooby-Dooand the gang would fare if they were forced to spend ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’, and that alone is something worth celebrating.
