The First Berserker: Khazanis one of the most challenging soulslikes you’re likely to ever play, and if it’s your first soulslike experience, you have probably already thrown your hands up out of frustration. If you start to die a lot at the beginning ofKhazan, the game will actually recommend that you try out its Easy Mode option. There are some definite benefits to using Easy Mode, but it also has some major drawbacks, and the decision can’t be reversed. For that reason, I don’t recommend using Easy Mode unless you are completely new to the soulslike experience.

There are many difficultbosses inThe First Berserker: Khazan, and what it considers to be"Normal Mode"is among the most challenging experiences I’ve ever had playing a soulslike. However, as with any soulslike, I started to grow accustomed to the difficulty level after repeated practice with each successive boss, even though there were moments I was tempted to switch to Easy Mode out of frustration. I’m glad I didn’t - bosses in Easy Mode are still obscenely hard, andEasy Mode also locks players out of the “true ending” of the game, which is a pretty significant downside.

How Easy Mode Works In First Berserker: Khazan

Khazan’s Stats Are Buffed, But Bosses Are Just As Tough

In my view, Easy Mode is an extremely misleading title for the gameplay option, as the main things that make the game challenging aren’t really adjusted at all.Bosses in Easy Mode have the exact same move sets, and pose the same overall challenge as they would in Normal Mode, except that Khazan is buffed to receive less and deal more damage. This means you’ll still have a hard time with beginningbosses such as Yetugaeven if you play in Easy Mode, as the hardest thing to overcome with most bosses is the odd pacing and timing of their attacks.

There are three different endings inThe First Berserker: Khazan, and you’ll have to play through NG+ to unlock all of them.

Easy Mode gives Khazan certain buffs, but the downsides include thatyou are locked into your decision to play on Easy Mode- there’s no going back to Normal - and you will not be able to access the “true ending” toFirst Berserker: Khazan. Having played both modes, the difference is certainly noticeable, but I definitely wouldn’t consider it easy. In Easy Mode, Khazan’s stats and performance are affected in the following ways:

These buffs only get you so far, and if the bosses are difficult for you in Normal Mode, they are only going to be slightly easier in Easy Mode. Don’t expect to go into Easy Mode and completely annihilate each boss, as they all still take a considerable amount of patience and learning to master.Easy Mode will make Khazan more durable and powerful, but it will not make the fundamental gameplay elements any less essential, including Brink Guards, Brink Dodges, Reflections, and stacking combos for maximum damage and exhausting enemies.

Is Easy Mode Worth It In Khazan?

Easy Mode Isn’t Really That Much Easier

Overall, Easy Mode is not worth it if you care about seeing the true ending of the game, or if you intend to unlock all the trophies/achievements. Additionally, easy mode does not make the game significantly easier, andyou’ll still end up struggling with bossesdue to their sometimes infuriating move sets, such as Trokka’s ridiculous umbrella attacks or theKhazanboss Shactuka’ssporadic and wild strikes.I would only recommend Easy Mode if this is your very first soulslike gameand you are struggling to even get past the first boss.

The First Berserker: Khazan - How To Beat Volbaino (Boss Guide)

Volbaino is the 4th boss in The First Berserker: Khazan and is found at the end of a village, who players will have to beat to progress the story.

At the same time, even for soulslike newcomers, the process of trial and error is an essential part of the genre, and you’ll end up benefiting from overcoming the challenge in the end. Typically, the challenging nature of each boss will teach you how to implement new skills or stack new combos, giving you a better understanding of your build, weapon skills and abilities, and the overall pacing of the game. You’ll still learn these things in Easy Mode, only you’ll have a slight advantage that is only slightly noticeable by the end ofThe First Berserker: Khazan.
