The true reliance Disney+ has on this franchise, however, has yet to be as glaringly obvious as it is now, looking back at this data from 2024.

With the dates of this data running from June 12, 2025 to July 13, 2025, it’s clear thatStar Wars, even with shows that weren’t released in 2024, was absolutely critical to Disney+’s TV show successlast year. The Acolyteis nearly at the top spot - a statistic that has shocked many, given the fact thatThe Acolytewas canceled in August 2024. What’s also quite impressive is the ranking ofStar Wars: The Bad Batch, as the animated TV show has managed to surpass four different live-action TV shows - a difficult feat to achieve.

Star Wars Is Vital To The Success Of Disney Plus

The Streaming Platform Relies On This Franchise

The obvious takeaway from this data is that Disney+ absolutely needsStar Warsto succeed. This could be quite troublesome for Disney+ going forward, as it seems that, starting in 2025,Star Warswill only release one live-action TV show a year- thus interfering with the streaming platform’s dependency on the franchise and creating fewer opportunities for it to succeed in a given year. This type of dependency is indeed a promising testament toStar Wars’excellence and cultural impact, but there is unfortunately another catch.

Our Take On Star Wars Viewership In 2024

On The Whole… It Wasn’t Great

While such apparent success forStar Warsseems promising, the reality is thatthis top 10 is based on a heavily decreased standard for Disney+ as a whole. WhenLuminate spoke exclusively to ScreenRant to reviewStar Wars'2024 run, they revealed that viewership for the streaming platform was at a dangerously low place in 2024 as it was. This was exemplified specifically byThe Acolyte.

“The Acolyte was really the first one that I think you would say is legitimately poor performance comparative to the other Star Wars shows,” Doyle notes. He points out thatviewership was 47% lower thanAhsokain the first 26 weeks of release- and that’s a particularly troubling stat, becauseAhsokasits in the middle of the pack and is pretty solid in terms of viewership. “Now that said, this is still one of the biggest shows on Disney+ this year,” he continues. “It’s just lower than where that level has been set for the Star Wars titles.“The Acolyte’s core problem was cost, because the show was simply too expensive for that viewership.

It looks like all these shows,The Acolytemost prominently, have performed very well, butin the grand scheme of things, they are skimming the surface ofStar Wars’previous standards for new releases. WhileThe Bad Batchis particularly exempt from this as an animated TV series, as animation rarely ever performs as well as live-action,The AcolyteandSkeleton Creware both still far below whatStar Warshas been used to over the years. Still, it stands thatStar Warsis the core foundation of Disney+, which is both thrilling and daunting given its future plans.
