Star Warshas at long last provided some context as to when Luke Skywalker’s famed training remote fromA New Hopewas created, doing so in the children’s showStar Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. Luke was famously seen training with this remote device on board theMillennium Falcon, and it has since reappeared in various places, includingThe Book of Boba Fett. Now, it’s become a part ofYoung Jedi Adventure, though not without adding some key context to its origin.

InYoung Jedi Adventuresseason 2, episode 12 “Unmasked,” Kai Brightstar and his best friend, Prince Cyrus, train with the very same devices during the High Republic era, a few hundred years beforeA New Hope. During this lightsaber training, these remotes are specified as “new.“This is important because, while the training remote has indeed been seen in other High Republic-era properties, this is the first time there’s been an indication that these remotes are brand-new technology.

Luke’s Training Remote Is Tied To The High Republic Era

This Technology Goes Way Back

Throughout its duration,Star Wars: The High Republic- in everything from its publishing initiative to shows likeYoung Jedi AdventuresandThe Acolyte- has found new ways to include incredible tie-ins to the rest of theStar Warssaga, allowing theHigh Republic erato become a truly ingrained part of theStar Warstimeline. Luke’s training remote is yet another example of this, providing context for something that enhances the viewing experience in retrospect. Having an origin for this may not be necessary, but it’s wicked cool.

Star Wars' High Republic Era Has Made Me See The Jedi In A Whole New Light

The High Republic era has not only expanded our understanding of the Jedi Order but showed us how the rest of the galaxy viewed the Jedi as well.

Most of the significance of this particular decision rests with the fact that Luke was training with the same equipment developed and used by the Jedi at their prime. That’s what the High Republic is known, and named, for. Both the Jedi and the greater Republic were flourishing, despite conflicts with threats such as theNihil marauders, and they were at the peak of their power, though not in a way they took advantage of. Peace was abounding in a way that was unimaginable during the Imperial era.

It’s Cool To See The Jedi Evolve

Especially Having Known So Little Prior To This Point

Easily the coolest aspect of the High Republic is seeing how the Jedi have evolved over time. No doubt by the time that Luke was using the training remote, that technology was considered dated. InYoung Jedi Adventures, however, it’s revered for its newness and its effectiveness in helping younglings like Kai and Prince be trained. Seeing how the Jedi have adapted to new technology over time is absolutely fascinating, especially the closer you get to the prequel trilogy.

Of course, this hasn’t just happened with technology such as the training remote. There are a variety of other ways in which the Jedi evolved from the High Republic era to the prequel trilogy era, and not always for the best. As time went on between those two periods, the Jedi became more and more focused on theJedi Coderather than serving the galaxy, and we can see how that would become a great problem later on. For now, however, it’s fascinating to focus on howYoung Jedi Adventuresis furthering the Jedi’s evolution.
