There are many differences and similarities betweenStar Wars Outlawsand theStar Wars Jediseries, but for the most part, the two games sit comfortably in their own niches, offering vastly different experiences but still remaining within the same vast interconnected universe. Much like the shows and films, they offer different experiences in terms of tone and characters. However, there is oneStar Wars Jedistory detail thatOutlawswould really benefit from, but unfortunately, it probably won’t be able to replicate because of a fundamental issue.

Star Wars Outlawsreviewed well enoughon its own that it doesn’t really need to replicate theJediseries or attempt to borrow any of its ideas. However, there’s one thing thatStar Wars Jedican and is doing thatOutlawsnever can, which is a great shame not just for Ubisoft but for fans too. Unfortunately, there’s likely nothing that can change this, as the reason it can never copy this idea is because of whenOutlawsis set in theStar Warstimeline.

Star Wars Outlaws Can Never Be A Trilogy

It Doesn’t Have The Wiggle Room In The Timeline

It turns out that theStar Wars Jediseries will be a trilogy, something that is perhaps not surprising to hardcoreStar Warsfans considering its penchant for trilogies. However, while theJediseries can afford to do this, considering it is set during the large gap betweenStar Wars: Revenge of the SithandStar Wars: A New Hope,Star Wars Outlawsdoes not have such a luxury. It is set betweenEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jedi, a one-year period between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, which is hardly long enough to put three whole games in.

Of course, there are plenty of directions a sequel could take based onStar Wars Outlaws’endingand how it relates to the overall canon. FutureOutlawssequels could take place during the yearReturn of the Jediis set, with Kay having a greater involvement in the Galactic Civil War. Even then, it would be hard to cram enough games to fit a trilogy. Naturally,Outlawscould go even beyond the original trilogy and venture into the sequel trilogy timeline, but that would pull it away from the Empire and warring criminal syndicates.

It’s worth noting that Ubisoft isn’t known for making narrative sequels to its games, despite making numbered sequels in a series. For example,Far Cry 4is not a sequel to3, much like how5is not a sequel to4. The only real exception is theEziotrilogy, which includesAssassin’s Creed 1toBrotherhood.

It would be a shame for it to not get a trilogy, as there are plenty ofmechanics inStar Wars Outlawsthat need improving, such as the reputation feature or the importance of choices.A sequel could address all of these issues while continuing Kay’s storyline, which would be exciting as she is arguably one of the best parts ofOutlaws. However, with the narrative limitations, it could be hard to getOutlawsto the trilogy mark, like theJediseries, especially if there’s barely any room in the timeline to tell its story.

Star Wars Outlaws Could Be An Anthology Series

Sequels Could Follow Different Outlaws Across The Various Eras

One option that Ubisoft could take would be to turnOutlawsinto an anthology series, much like itsFar CryandAssassin’s Creedgames. This way, it could switch up its protagonist to another scoundrel in the galaxy looking to make a quick buck but secretly has a huge destiny while weaving its popular characters, like Kay and Nix, in as cameos. It would allow the series to continue within roughly the same timeline, just in different parts of the galaxy where Kay couldn’t reasonably have gone to in the timeframe she had.

Regardless of howStar Wars Outlawshandles its potential sequels, it’s unlikely to be able to have a complete trilogy if it confines itself to the same time period as the first game.

It would also allow Ubisoft to explore other timelines in theStar Warsuniverse, heading back to the prequel trilogy era or even the Old Republic, and explore what scoundrels would have looked like in that time period. WhileOutlawsavoids the biggest Ubisoft mistakes, it could be worth taking its typical approach to game sequels, as it would ensure that its legacy, and that of its characters, could live on through multiple sequels. Players would also be given the chance to explore more planets inOutlaw’sgorgeous style, which would be incredibly exciting.

Every Weapon In Star Wars Outlaws, Ranked

Star Wars Outlaws has a handful of weapons that Kay can pick up temporarily in the heat of battle, although some are worth using over others.

Regardless of howStar Wars Outlawshandles its potential sequels, it’s unlikely to be able to have a complete trilogy if it confines itself to the same time period as the first game. For many, the ability to continue exploring this version of the galaxy alongside Nix, ND-5, and the rest of the Trailblazer crew would be a genuine joy. So, here’s hoping that somehow Ubisoft pulls a trilogy, or maybe even more, out of the bag, giving fans even more scoundrel-basedStar Wars Outlawsgameplay to enjoy.
