Superman & Loiscould have had its current Jonathan Kent actor from the start. The DC series is now in its final season, making way for the onlylive-action version of Supermanto be David Corenswet in James Gunn’s newDC Universe.Superman & Loisseason 4 has been on a roll, with major events happening every episode, and Michael Bishop’s Jonathan Kent has been a huge part of that. After a long time, Jonathan finally got his powers, and it turns out that Bishop could have been telling the character’s story since the series began.
Speaking withKryptonSite,Michael Bishop revealed that he auditioned to play Jonathan Kent whenSuperman & Loiswas first casting the role, and the actor got close to getting it. Jordan Elsass was ultimately picked to play Jonathan, with Bishop joining the DC series in season 3 after Elsass left for mental health reasons. According to the current Jon Kent actor, he was heartbroken to find out he had not gotten the role when he auditioned for it in 2019 or 2020. Bishop now gets to be a key part ofSuperman & Loisseason 4’s castyears later. Check out the full quote below:

Back in 2019 or 2020, I auditioned for Jon, and it got right down to the wire, and I missed out. I was heartbroken. I always felt like “damn, I would have played a really good Jon Kent.” I really felt that, truly, and I don’t normally feel that about roles. If I miss out on them, I usually go “all right, well, you know, that’s fine. It wasn’t meant to be.” But with this one, I was sure that was my role!
Jordan Elsass did a fantastic job with Jon, but to have the role come back to me in this way was so surreal and so incredible. I’m forever grateful.

What Michael Bishop’s Jonathan Kent Comments Mean?
Superman & Lois Could Have Been Very Different
Interestingly, Michael Bishop’s comments reveal that he has been on the radar of theSuperman & Loisteam from the start. While the actor did not get the role, he explained that it “got right down to the wire,” so he was one of the top candidates for the part when Jonathan Kent was first being cast. That also explains why the actor was chosen for the role whenSuperman & Loisseason 3 had to recast Jonathan at the last-minutedue to Jordan Elsass' decision to leave the series.
Superman & Lois Just Created The Only Way I’d Accept DC Replacing The Man Of Steel
Superman & Lois season 4 might be the end of the DC series, but it also seems to be setting up a shocking future for Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel.
The team behind the series had likely kept tabs on the actor from the initial audition process for the role, and he was called to replace Elsass. In the end, it worked out great, asBishop plays a great version of Jonathan Kent. The actor was sad not to get the role the first time around, and that seems to have helped make his take on the character even better, as Bishop does not take for granted the second chance he got of playing the role.

Our Take On Michael Bishop’s Jonathan Kent Comments
Michael Bishop’s reveal answers the question I’ve had for a long time about howSuperman & Loisfound a replacement for Elsass so quickly. It’s interesting to know that both actors auditioned for Jon when the show first started, so the level of quality was very high, as I’m a fan of what both stars have done in the role. I’m happy that if Elsass had to leave, someone like Bishop, who wanted the role so much and was heartbroken not to get it at first, managed to be cast as Jonathan Kent inSuperman & Lois.
