Part of the fun and sometimes frustration ofOnce Humanis setting up a base. This includes building foundations, placing down furniture, and unlocking new recipes to make the base functional and homey. With the end of theManibusand the beginning ofthe Way of Winterscenarios, the map has undergone a significant change.
No longer can players access the older areas. Instead, they must start fresh in the newer regions ofOnyx Tundra, Vena Fjord, and Ember Strand. With the new scenario ofOnce Humanout and many players making the switch, players will need to know the best place to build. While the map is smaller than the previous scenario’s map, there are still several places to choose from, some better than others.

The Best Locations To Build a Base In Way of Winter
Bases Should Be Placed Near Resources
TheWay of Winterhas three regions on the map. The first two, Onyx Tundra and Vena Fjord, were accessible at the start of the scenario. Players could choose between the two as their landing spot. Onyx Tundra was promoted as beginner-friendly, whereas Vena Fjord was geared toward more experienced players. As of Phase 2, Ember Strand also became available for players to explore and build in.
Once Human Way of Winter: All 7 New Deviants Locations & How To Get Them
Once Human’s new Way of Winter PvE scenario introduces seven deviants to find and capture as you explore new regions. Here’s how to use them.
Each region has several settlements to build next to, and settlements are popular places to build. However, they can also be overcrowded. Fortunately, there are plenty of worlds to choose from as well, and if you’re having trouble finding a spot in one world, you should switch to another. So, where should you build in each of the new regions?

Onyx Tundra For Easy Passive Acid Farming
The first choice for the best base building location inOnce Human: Way of Winteriseast of Tobacco Resort. This is because it’s located in a polluted areawith access to plenty of polluted water. While pollution can deplete some of your health, as long as you’re wearing appropriatearmor inOnce Human, the pollution will be more forgiving than the harsh winter elements you’ll meet elsewhere on the map.
With access to polluted water, you can eventuallypassively farm acid. If you’re building here, make sure tounlock the Memeticsearly on, which will unlock the Water Pump. Another benefit of building in this area is that it’s less likely to be overcrowded because of the contamination.

However, that might depend on the world, too. Another great choice, and my favorite, is the buildingeast of Mousseville. I, along with two friends, built in this area. While it can get cold, especially between 8 PM and 8 AM, you can combat this by making and consumingSalty Roasted Spikemato. The recipe unlocks with the Dishes II Memetic.
ensure to unlock Memetics that help you keep warm, like the Polar Expedition and Thermal Tower Memetics.
What I like about this area is that it is aesthetically pleasing and provides a flat surface on which to build your base. Plus, it’snear water, and there are plenty of deer, seals, and polar bearsthat spawn around here. Not to mention, it’s near Mousseville, which is a great place to loot when you’re running low on the basics.
The final recommended building place is near theIce House CampinOnce Human. With easy access to the camp, you may travel there easily and trade with the NPCs. Plus, the surrounding areas haveplenty of resources to farm.
Vena Fjord Is Great For Resources Of All Types
Next is Vena Fjord. Venja Fjord and Onyx Tundra were the two places players could initially choose to land and build. Vena Fjord is home to places like Whaleborn, the Abandoned Farm, and Wish Land West.
If you’re looking to build here, the first place to consider isnear the Broken Reefs Teleportation Tower. First, it’s near a teleportation tower, which can be helpful, especially if your home teleportation is on cooldown. Second, it’s also near many good resources, including animals, trees, and rocks.
To survive the cold, make sure to hunt different animals, as each animal’s hide has different properties.
Whaleboneis another area to consider building close to. Since you’re able to’t build directly in or next to a settlement, travel to the west side, and you’ll find plenty of space to build. Here, you’ll have access to things like Cold Crystal Ores, Sulfur and Iron, and seawater. You’ll also find plenty of Spikemato plants.
Tired of worrying about hypothermia? Buildnear Greenfield. Greenfield is lush with greenery, and you won’t have to worry too much about the drastically low temperatures. Plus, Greenfield hasplenty ofanimals to tameor hunt and easy access to various minerals and plants.
Like in Onyx Tundra, there’s a place in Vena Fjord that has theperfect spot to farm acid, too. Since acid is a valuable resource inOnce Human, places where you can easily farm it are popular to build. In Vena Fjord, the place to farm acid is locatedeast of the Abandoned Farm. This area has access to polluted water and Startrace Ores while surrounding areas will have plants and other minerals. While you’ll have to worry about pollution, you won’t have to worry about hypothermia in this area.
The Newly Unlocked Ember Strand Is A Fire Hazard
Ember Strand is the last area to open inOnce Humanand is less likely to have as many players building there. This is because the area isovercome with lava pits, which are easy to fall into. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t areas that you can build a base on.
If you want to build a base in the Ember Strand, I recommendheading to the south and away from any lava pits. You can also build near the Oblivion settlement, either east or north. What’s nice about Ember Strand is that you’ll have plenty of access to Hot Rock Ore.
What To Look For When Building A Base
Resources, Looting Places, And Animals To Hunt
Picking a good location is important when building a base inOnce Human. However, what defines good can be subjective. You should think about what’s most important to you and then go from there. If you like easy access to loot, build near lootable areas. If you like easy access to animals and minerals, build near places like Greenfield. If you prefer seclusion, you might have to jump between worlds to find the perfect spot. Also, consider things that will help your late game, like being able to farm acid.
Where you initially build your base does not have to be set in stone. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to move bases as long as you can find a clear place to do so. So, if you get bored with one area and want to move on or decide you want access to more resources, you can change spots in the future and even jump between regions. Remember, each location has its advantages and disadvantages, and no place will be perfect. So pick and choose what matters most to you, and have fun building inOnce Human.
