The Mandalorian & Grogu, thenextStar Warsmovie, has wrapped filming and is on track for a May 2026 release. Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and his delightful ward broughtStar Warsto Disney+ back in 2019, and the duo is leading the charge back to theaters withThe Mandalorian & Grogu. Production onStar Wars' next movie officially began in July this year, with relatively few leaks or set photos due to use of the Volume.
The latest report fromPuck Newsreveals thatproduction ofThe Mandalorian & Groguhas wrapped. It means the movie is on track for a release date of June 15, 2025, given this is plenty of time for post-production. Filming has evidently run smoothly, with no issues, a testament to director Jon Favreau’s skill.

The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Progress Is Great News For Star Wars
The Mandalorian & Grogusits at the heart of Lucasfilm’s plan for the future. It brings two popular Disney+ characters to the big screen for the first time; importantly, though, it also continues the narrative running throughAhsokaandStar Wars: Skeleton Crewas well. Din Djarin has been hired by the New Republic to hunt down members of the Imperial Remnant, right at the momentGrand Admiral Thrawntakes charge of those same forces.Star Warshas always been a transmedia franchise, but never quite like this.
The Mandalorianstumbled with season 3, but hopefully Jon Favreau has learned lessons from that experience. If he has, this could be just the shot in the arm theStar Warsfranchise needs right now. The timing of the news is perfect, coming alongside more disappointing news that Daisy Ridley’s"New Jedi Order" movie has lost screenwriter Steven Knight.
Our Take On The Mandalorian & Grogu
The Mandalorianwas Disney+’s flagship TV show, and it remains one of the best - even with the stumbles in season 3. Theend ofThe Mandalorianseason 3set up a new status quo for Din Djarin, one that moves him a little closer to the imminent galaxy-spanning adventures, and it will be exciting to see how those play out. It’s not massively surprising that production has been so smooth; Jon Favreau is one of the best in the business, and the Volume technology meant there was minimal location work.
AlthoughThe Mandalorian & Groguis on track for a August 15, 2025 release, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it move to December of that year. It’s currently coming out alongside an Avengers movie, which seems like a bad idea, and Lucasfilm is unlikely to be able to put out another film in that December slot - especially now Knight has left Rey’s New Jedi Order movie. No doubt the studio is currently considering options.
