Following the epic conclusion of BOOM! Studios’Mighty MorphinPower Rangersseries, the Power Rangers universe exploded into an infinite sea of all-new stories featuring the franchise’s most iconic themes. Recently, Rita Repulsa has awoken from her thousand-year slumber and is wreaking havoc upon an Earth with no Power Rangers. However, when a new band of heroes gather to face Rita, the witch reveals this universe’s first Power Ranger Prime.

InPower Rangers Prime #3- by Melissa Flores and Michael Yg - Rita continues her path of conquest while the fledgling heroes help Lauren Shiba regain her Power Rangers abilities. However, without her old Morpher and key, Shiba has been unable tocall upon the Morphin Grid.

While Lauren may be without her original Samurai Morpher, her new ally Markon believes he knows where a different Morpher may be. In this issue, Rita briefly mentions that she bears a natural connection to the mythical Morphin Grid. She claims thatthe Morphin Grid’s powers were infused into her as a childto create a legendary hero. While she may have failed to live up to expectations, this version of Rita possesses a power unseen from previous iterations. When she and the all-new “teens with attitude” meet, Angel Grove’s VR Troopers are quickly closing in. In a last-ditch effort to save herself, Rita forges a new Power Coin and dubs Laura hernew Power Ranger Prime.

Unlike anything her predecessors have ever done,this Rita has the power to create her own Power Coins.In both the originalMighty Morphin Power Rangerstelevision show and comic series, it took a considerable amount of power and delicate care to be able to forge a Power Coin. But, with Rita’s latent connection to the Morphin Grid, this version of the character is more akin to a Power Ranger god. More surprisingly, it looks like this universe’sPower Rangers and Rita Repulsaare officially teaming up.

This Power Rangers universeis set under the oppressive rule of an authoritarian alien government. Where the Power Rangers normally defend the Earth from the likes of Rita, she may actually become the lesser of two evils. It’s clear that this series will continue to evolve the Power Rangers into a team of freedom fighters against the Eltarian government, butif Rita is the source of the Rangers’ new powers she may too join the fray.Even Rita herself mentioned that she was supposed to become a hero which could hopefully foreshadow the villain’s turn toward good.
