Giving gifts inThe Sims 4has always been a bit tricky, but now players can give out more gifts to other Sims with the Lovestruck expansion. This will allow them tobetter their romantic relationships and build deeper bonds with each other. Sims have a much broader range of gifts available to them now as well, leading to more creativity and fun on the player’s part.
There are a lot ofnew aspirations inThe Sims 4: Lovestruckexpansion, which can affect things likehow your Sims react to gift-giving or other acts of affection. There are a lot of other possible aspirations and figuring out what you want your Sim to respond to is half the fun when you pick what aspirations they have. This can alsoaffect your Sim’s Romantic Satisfaction, and certain Sims will appreciate gift-giving more than others.

New Gift Shops
Players used to only be able topurchase gifts through the computer or phone, which is all still possible. Players can go to the shopping app on either device to purchase gifts or romantic items with the new update. If you have theSeasonsexpansion, you will be able togift anything in your inventory, but if not you will have a more limited selection. Either way, this is just one option available to you.
With theLovestruckexpansion, there aretwo new gift shops available in the Ciudad Enamorada World. They are located in Nuevo Corazon and Plaza Mariposa, the former by Sudor Gym and the latter by Media Naranja Park. These are very cute little stands with pastel colors surrounded by flowers and other romantic items.Approaching the shops and choosing to interact with themwill give players a few different options, shown in the table below:

As you can see, there are giftoptions available for nearly any budget, unless your Sim is truly destitute. Once you purchase a gift, it willappear in the Sim’s inventory who made the purchase. After that, it is time to start giving the gifts out.
How To Give Romantic Gifts

Your Sim can then try toearn the affection of their partner by giving them gifts as a Romantic gesture. Once a romantic gift is in their inventory, they should approach the Sim they want to gift the item to and start a conversation with them. You can then go through the conversation options to find“Affection” - “Romantic Gifts.”This should be under the larger “Romance” category. You can even do this on dates to speed up the process of reaching rewards, such as on anew hidden event forThe Sims 4.
You may want to double-check that the Sim you are approaching to give the gift to is actually turned on by this gesture instead of repulsed.
There are arange of flowers and options to give the Sim, and even more, if you have the Seasons expansion. You can also choose to give single flowers or bouquets from the same conversation menu. Alternatively, you can also choose between giving them the Sweetheart’s Boxes orselecting it from your inventory and making the choice to share it with them. This will create a very cute moment between your Sims as they swap pieces of confectionery goodness with each other.
How Romantic Gifts Affect Play
Romantic Satisfaction
The main thing that the Romantic Gifts will affect with this expansion is thenew Romantic Satisfaction track. There are a variety of options on this track that will make things easier or harder for your Sim to find a perfect match, and this includes theirturn-on and turn-off traits from the Lovestruck expansion. Gift Giving can be either, depending on how your Sim feels about the matter, so make sure thatboth Sims are compatible in this way before setting off to purchase gifts.

You can see what your Sim is attracted to if you navigate to the Relationship Tab of that particular Sim and see what their opinions are. This will also open up theRomantic Boundaries profileso you can see how this Sim feels about their partner interacting with other Sims romantically.
Once two Sims have formed a strong romantic relationship, themeter for Romantic Satisfaction will start to track their fulfillmentin their relationship. You will receive a notification when this happens. If your Sims are inclined toward receiving gifts, that is one good way to increase Romantic Satisfaction. With luck,it will improve both meters and you will see both of them have increased fulfillmentin their relationships.
Giving gifts when they are not wanted is going to be a turn-off, and instead, your Sims’ fulfillment levels will go down, possibly landing at “unsatisfied.” However, it is possible if your Sims have different Attractions, that one of your Sims will feel satisfied and one of them will come away from the act less so. That is why it is important to check compatibility and see if they might work long-term. Sims who are oppositeswill not be satisfied in their relationshipsin this case - even if opposites might attract in real life.
Beyond Sim preferences, what this does at the gameplay level isforce players to track this along with their other needs. Sims can now die of broken hearts, so maintaining a healthy relationship is crucial to keeping them healthy in the game as well. You will want to maintain positive relationships and keep them strong over time, at least if you want your Sims to thrive.
