Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5Skeleton Crewepisode 5 features some very exciting Easter eggs and references, many of which connect to the ancient pirate history of theStar Warsgalaxy. Continuing their search for a way home to At Attin and its legendary “eternal treasure”, the young crew ofThe OnyxCinderand Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood receive a new heading from the ship’s first mate, SM-33 (Nick Frost). However, the secret pirate lair they expected to find looks quite different at the onset.
As revealed by SM-33 at the end ofSkeleton Crewepisode 4, the coordinates to At Attin were erased by the old captain ofThe Onyx Cinderbefore he allegedly killed his crew on At Achrann. However, the droid’s recollections appear to be quite unreliable following this new episode. With that in mind, here are all the biggest Easter eggs and references we found connected to theStar Warsgalaxy’s ancient pirate history (and more).

14Captain Tak Rennod
Replacing Xim The Despot?
The reverse of “Donner”, as inThe Goonies’director Richard Donner, Tak Rennod was a major pirate legend,“the most infamous pirate the galaxy’s ever known”. As such, he may bethe canon replacement for Legends' pirate king Xim The Despot. In Legends, Xim had an entire pirate empire and was feared across the galaxy, much like Rennod according to Jod’s claims inSkeleton Crewepisode 5.
13The MysteriousOnyx Cinder…
A Ghost Ship Of Myth and Legend
The Onyx Cinder’sname is finally spoken in-universe, thanks to SM-33 and Jod who confirm the ship once belonged to Tak Rennodand that the ship, its crew, and its captain vanished without a trace while searching for At Attin. SM-33 also confirms thatRennod allegedly crashedThe Onyx Cinderon At Attin to kill his mutinous crew. However, it did say in the previous episodes that Rennod killed his crew on At Achrann, so the droid’s memory may be still quite faulty (or he’s outright lying to the kids and Jod).
12Lanupa’s Many Names
Including Battle World?
According to SM-33, the luxury world of Lanupa was once known in the past as Demon’s Rest and Battle World. Coincidentally,Battleworld is the same name as the patchwork collection of merged realities created by Doctor Doom in the comics’Secret Wars, and the same could be true in the upcomingAvengersmovies of the same name.
11The Banking Clan
Former Separatists (And History With Darth Plagueis)
Not-so-secret supporters of the Separatists during The Clone Wars,it looks as though the Banking Clan is still active during the New Republic Era. A few Muuns are also shown at the spa,the same species asThe Acolyte’sDarth Plagueis. Plagueis himself also had an alter ego much like Palpatine was Darth Sidious' public face, having been widely known as an investor among the Banking Clan by the name of Hego Damask (at least in the Legends continuity).
10New Names For Jod Na Nawood
How Many Names Does He Have?
More aliases are revealed for Jude Law’s character, including Dash Zentin and Jodwick Zank.Dash Zentin in particular is likely a reference to Dash Rendar, the popular smuggler who first debuted in Legends’Shadows of the Empire.Dash Rendar does exist in the canon as well (albeit in a much smaller capacity). As such, perhaps Jod and Dash have a history in theStar Warscanon, potentially inspiring Jod to take Dash’s first name as an alias.
9Guild Jobs & Pucks
What’s Going On With The Bounty Hunter’s Guild?
While she does end up claiming the bounty on Jod and offering up his location to Brutus,Jod’s former partner Pokkit claims she no longer works low-rent jobs for the Bounty Hunter’s Guild, instead working for an independent client. She also mentions pucks, which should be familiar toMandalorianfans as the shorthand for holopucks which carry the identification and details of a bounty hunter’s target. Regardless, one has to wonder if theBounty Hunter’s Guild is starting to gradually falling apart, seeing as how Pokkit is making more money solo.
8Captain Rennod’s Sigil
Resembles The Nihil Marauders
One could argue that Rennnod’s sigil resembles the sigil of the Nihil maraudersfrom The High Republic Era. Led by the brutal Marchion Ro, the Nihil’s symbol is three lightning bolts which carry a strong similarity to Tak Rennod’s twin jagged lines, connecting to their hierarchy of leadership which was all centered around the concept of storms, hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga.
7The Soaking Hutt
One Of Book of Boba Fett’s Twins
The Hutt shown taking a mud bath looks to be one of The Twins, Jabba the Hutt’s cousins who debuted inThe Book of Boba Fettand gifted Boba with a rancor after they gave up their claim to Jabba’s palace and holdings on Tatooine. The chin tattoo is a key identifier that helps to confirm that this is more than likely one of the same twin Hutts who hired Black Krrsantan to take down Boba Fett in the previousStar Warsshow.
6Ur-Kittât Symbols
Ancient Writings That Can Sometimes Be Translated
Jod and the kids inspect various carvings and inscriptions around the spa, many of which look to be ur-Kittât, also known as the Old Tongue which has been shown in previousStar Warsprojects, along with its Sith Tongue variant. While it’s sometimes merely decorative, certain series like 2023’sAhsokafeature translatable ur-Kittâtwhich was primarily shown on the extragalactic world of Peridea and the fallen kingdom of the Dathomiri.
5Star Wars' Version of Cthulu
A Giant Octopus-Like Spa Guest
Thanks to the giant octopus-like creature named Cthallops,it seems as thoughStar Warshas its own Cthulu-inspired alien, both in name and appearance. Befriending Wim and Fern, Cathallops helps the crew access Rennod’s lair located beneath the Skull Ridge Mountain spa.
