Miguel And Tory’s Sekai Taikai Wins Confirm They Are Cobra Kai’s Best Fighters
The Champions Of Cobra Kai Stand Tall
AsCobra Kaiseason 6 comes to a close,Xolo Meridueña’s Miguel Diaz and Peyton List’s Tory Nichols are confirmed as the show’s strongest fighters. For years, it has been a toss-up between these two characters, Tanner Buchanan’s Robby Keene, and Mary Mouser’s Samantha LaRusso regarding the title of the best male and female fighters. Although other karate champions - like Axel and Zara of The Iron Dragons - also threw their hypothetical hats into the ring, the focus onCobra Kai’s central cast meant that the champions were always going to be decided from the aforementioned four.
Johnny, Daniel, and Chozen led Miguel and Tory to victory against their respective opponents, crowning the two Sekai Taikai champions…

As it turns out, Miguel and Tory came out on top. Sam decided she had nothing left to prove and dropped out of the Sekai Taikai, with Robby bowing out after having his leg broken during a fight with Axel. This established a female final between Tory and Zara, and a male showdown between Miguel and Axel. After reclaiming the mantle of the titular dojo for themselves, Johnny, Daniel, and Chozen led Miguel and Tory to victory against their respective opponents, crowning the two Sekai Taikai champions and settling the debate aboutCobra Kai’s strongest fighters once and for all.
It Only Made Sense For Miguel To Win The Sekai Taikai At The End Of Cobra Kai
Miguel Was Always The Central Piece
Concerning the male champion ofCobra Kai’s Sekai Taikai, Miguel Diaz was the only logical choice. While the likes of Robby, Hawk, Kenny, and even Demetri have received a great deal of focus over the years, Miguel was the subject of the show from the beginning.Cobra Kaimay have grown immeasurably in scale since season 1, but it began as essentially a mirror ofThe Karate Kid,with Johnny Lawrence filling the Miyagi role and Miguel acting as a Daniel LaRusso-like figure.
I Predicted Miguel Would Win The Sekai Taikai, & Cobra Kai Season 6 Hasn’t Changed My Mind
Miguel has always been my pick to win the Sekai Taikai, and what happened in Cobra Kai season 6 part 1 has only reinforced my prediction.
This essentially rendered Miguel asCobra Kai’s Karate Kid from the beginning, with seasons 2-6 only solidifying him as such. From the focus on his rivalry with Robby, his relationships with Tory and Sam, his journey to recovery after being paralyzed, his development with his real father, and the found family between him and Johnny -Cobra Kai’s other main character - Miguel has always been arguably the most important young character in the show. With all this in mind, the decision to make MiguelCobra Kai’s Sekai Taikai champion was never in doubt.

Tory And Sam’s Rivalry Was Settled Outside The Mat (But Tory Was The Better Fighter)
Tory’s Tenacity Saw Her Crowned Champion
Regarding Tory’s win at the Sekai Taikai, this made just as much sense as Miguel’s did. Between her and Sam, the decision could have gone either way. This was even more evident during the height of Sam and Tory’s rivalry, yetCobra Kaiseasons 5 and 6 began to mend their rift. This led to Sam and Tory becoming best friends, meaning the rivalry that had been built over the seasons no longer needed to be settled on the mat.
Beyond that, the development of Sam and Tory individually meant that the latter should have been the champion. Sam’s reason for fighting for most ofCobra Kaiwas to overcome her bullies, with the sole focus of her fear, determination, and anger being Tory. After becoming friends, Sam felt she had no other reason to fight, stepping aside so that Tory could. For Tory, she has always been shown to be a stronger fighter with good reason for venting her anger. Be it her troubled upbringing or rivalry with Zara, it only made sense for her to beCobra Kai’s Sekai Taikai champion alongside Miguel.
