As theDC Universeis about to begin, a status report onWallerhas been revealed by one of the stars in the show. Whilethe DC Universe’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters"will mostly serve as a reboot for DC Studios, a few DCEU elements are coming over, which includes Viola Davis' Amanda Waller. Despite theWallerspinoff series having been revealed in May 2022, updates have been extremely limited, even after James Gunn and Peter Safran announced its creative team in January 2023.
In a recent interview withScreen Rantfor the upcomingCreature Commandospremiere, Steve Agee, who is returning to reprise the role of John Economos fromThe Suicide SquadandPeacemaker, was asked if there were any new details he could share aboutWaller, which he has been confirmed to return for in an official 2023 update by Gunn. When asked if he knew whenWallerwould start filming,Agee said that he believed the Max show is still in the script stages, stating the following:

Steve Agee: I think they’re still doing scripts, so there’s no set time yet, and James won’t start something until he’s absolutely happy with the scripts and they’re they’re ready to go. So once they’re ready, I’m sure he’ll announce a start time - as an actor who loves to work, it can’t happen soon enough, though, for me! [laughs]
What Steve Agee’s Comments Mean For Waller
Even thoughWallermay not be moving forward as fast as some may have expected, Agee’s update for the DC Universe spinoff is promising for a number of reasons.Wallerhas one of the strongest creative teams attached in the DC Universe,asWatchmen’sChristal Henry andDoom Patrol’sJeremy Carver are writing and executive producing the show. Given thatWallerwas also one ofthe DC Universe shows affected by the 2023 strikes, it’s easy to see why the scripts might not have been completed yet.
Despite Davis having played Amanda since 2016’sSuicide Squad,Wallerwill be the first live-action DC project to put her character in the center spotlight and finally flesh out her mythology in the DC Universe, which is especially promising if the character is going to be around for a long time. That is why it is preferred that theWallerteam gets to polish the scripts as much as possible to make sure Davis' Max series is as strong as it can possibly be under Gunn’s DC Universe. IftheWallerTV showgoes into production in 2025, it could be one of the DC Universe projects to arrive in 2026.

Our Take On Steve Agee’s Waller Comments
Based on Agee’s latest update, the fact thatWalleris still being written indicates that it is moving forward and may simply be waiting for a proper series pick-up. SinceThe PenguinandLanternsended up becoming HBO Originals, there is also the possibility that the currentWallerdelay is because DC Studios is retooling the show to fit the major cable channel. Hopefully, as 2024 closes out, more announcements forWallerwill come in early 2025.
