The Umbrella Academygave a definitive but controversial ending to the Hargreeves, but one alternate Viktor (Elliot Page) storyline would have been good for him, even if it would have made his ending even more tragic. In 2019, Netflix brought a darker look at superheroes withThe Umbrella Academy, based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.The Umbrella Academystuck around for four seasons, ending in 2024 with a controversial season.

The Umbrella Academyfollows the Hargreeves, seven adopted siblings with superpowers, adopted and trained by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore). The Hargreeves parted ways as they grew up due to trauma and more, but are forced to reunite after Reginald’s death and as the apocalypse approaches. Each Hargreeves sibling had their own struggles, but the one with the heaviest charge was definitely Viktor, and an alternate story would have given him some happiness, but would have made his ending even worse.

In An Alternate Timeline, Sissy & Viktor Got Back Together

The Umbrella Academyseason 2 saw the Hargreeves jumping to 1960s Dallas, Texas, but they landed in different years. Viktor ended up in 1963, and shortly after arriving, he was hit by a car by Sissy Cooper (Marin Ireland). Sissy took him in so he could recover and allowed him to stay with her family as Viktor was dealing with amnesia. With time,Viktor bonded with Sissy’s son, Harlan, and he and Sissy fell in love with each other, though Sissy was married. Unfortunately, they couldn’t be together, not just because of Sissy’s husband, but because of The Commission and the apocalypse.

Atthe end ofThe Umbrella Academyseason 2, Viktor and his siblings return to their right year, though they land in a different timeline where, instead of the Umbrellas, Reginald createdthe Sparrow Academy. Meanwhile, Sissy stayed in the 1960s with Harlan and then moved away, but she ended up on the FBI’s Most Wanted List for her alleged involvement with the “Kennedy Six” (aka the Hargreeves) and the death of her husband. This led Sissy and Harlan to move around for 26 years, more so as Harlan’s powers continued to develop.

Elliot Page as Viktor in The Umbrella Academy Season 3

Sissy never lost hope of meeting Viktor again, but she passed away of cancer on July 13, 2025, the same day the Hargreeves were born. Now, speaking toMovieWeb, Ireland shared that she and Page had an idea for an alternate story for their characters. In it,Sissy and Viktor would have reunited thanks to the different timeline jumps throughout the show and be happy together, showing that there was still time for them. As heartwarming as this would have been, it wouldn’t have quite fit the show.

The Umbrella Academy Focused More On Viktor’s Personal Journey & Growth Than His Love Life

Viktor Went Through A Lot In The Umbrella Academy

Arguably, the Hargreeves sibling with the heaviest trauma was Viktor(with Klaus on a very close second). As he was the most powerful of the team,Viktor’s powersgot out of control easily, and Reginald struggled to train him. Concluding that Viktor could be dangerous, Reginald made Allison brainwash Viktor into thinking he was ordinary and powerless, which led to him being alienated from his siblings. It wasn’t until 2019 that Viktor re-discovered his powers, but it was due to Leonard Peabody’s manipulation. Viktor was the source of the apocalypse in season 1, and a key factor in season 2’s apocalypse.

Viktor’s journey inThe Umbrella Academywas not just one of self-discovery but also growth and healing his past.

InThe Umbrella Academyseason 3, Viktor came out as trans and was visibly more comfortable with himself and his powers, which was a lot clearer in season 4. Viktor’s journey inThe Umbrella Academywas not just one of self-discovery but also growth and healing his past, ashe also mended his relationships with his siblings and even with Reginald, the latter happening in season 4. Because of this,The Umbrella Academydidn’t really have much room for Viktor’s love life, so as good as it would have been to see him happy with Sissy, it could have felt rushed or forced.

None Of The Hargreeves Were Meant To Have Happy Endings In The Umbrella Academy

The Hargreeves Were Meant To Make Big Sacrifices

Viktor’s journey throughoutThe Umbrella Academywas a personal one and all about growth and healing, but the sad reality is that none of the Hargreeves were meant to have a happy ending. Just when they thought Luther had found his, his wifeSloane was completely wiped out from the season 4 timeline(and without explanation), Diego and Lila’s marriage was cracked by her brief relationship with Five when trapped in another timeline, Allison divorced from Ray, and Klaus and Viktor were single.

Every Issue I Have With That Five & Lila Romance In The Umbrella Academy Season 4

There’s no denying that one of the most divisive parts of The Umbrella Academy season 4 involved Five & Lila’s sudden romance plot in the final hour.

Then there was Ben, whose romance with Jennifer was what triggered the end of the world. In the end,the Hargreeves and Lila had to sacrifice themselves to save the universe, so they were never really meant to have happy endings. Had Sissy and Viktor reunited, it would have only made Viktor’sThe Umbrella Academyending a lot more tragic.
