Summary

Deadpool & Wolverinemay have directly teased the stories ofAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Warsif a specific Marvel theory comes true. DespiteDeadpool & Wolverineplaying around with the concepts of the Marvel multiverse, the film did not necessarily feed into theupcoming list of Marvel moviesas much as many originally thought it would. Rather than look forward to the future of the franchise, it was clear byDeadpool &Wolverine’s endingthat the film was content to look back and celebrate the legacy of the FoxX-Menfranchise with reverence.

This somewhat differed from what many were expecting going into the movie, with the hope being thatDeadpool & Wolverine’s multiversal Easter eggswould directly set up Phase 6 of the MCU. While this certainly happened in some ways, the film felt more like a capper of theDeadpooltrilogy while still leaving off its characters for future appearances. That said, there is one wayDeadpool & Wolverinecould have teased thestory ofAvengers: Doomsdayand its sequel,Avengers: Secret Wars, as explained by a neat Marvel theory.

Deadpool & Wolverine Introduced The Concept Of Anchor Beings

Anchor Beings Are The Newest Multiversal Concept In The MCU

Firstly, it is worth exploring the concept fromDeadpool & Wolverinethat could tie intoAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Wars. The plot point in question is the idea of Anchor Beings. InDeadpool & Wolverine,Mr. Paradox explains thatAnchor Beings are individuals who are integral to each branch of the Marvel multiverse; If an Anchor Being is killed or removed from its timeline, that timeline begins slowly deteriorating until it is destroyedcompletely. While Paradox states this can take thousands of years, Anchor Beings are still integral to the overall multiverse.

Through the concept of Anchor Beings, the entire story ofAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Warscould be formulated, tyingDeadpool & Wolverineinto the Multiverse Saga…

In theFoxX-Menmovie timeline, Wolverine was the Anchor Being, who died inLogan. The Wolverine found by Deadpool inDeadpool & Wolverinethen replaced him, keeping the Fox timeline alive and well. Through the concept of Anchor Beings, the entire story ofAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Warscould be formulated, tyingDeadpool & Wolverineinto the Multiverse Saga in the integral way many thought it would be before release.

Marvel Theory: Anchor Beings Are The MCU’s Version Of The Molecule Men

Anchor Beings Could Be The MCU’s Stand-Ins For Secret Wars Comic Characters

Now that they have been introduced inDeadpool & Wolverine, Anchor Beings could be tied to the future of the MCU in a massive way based on the source material. In the 2015 Marvel Comics run ofSecret Wars,Doctor Doom discovers that a group of beings named the Beyonders are experimenting with destroying the multiverse. To do so, the Beyonders place a powerful individual named the Molecule Man in every branch of the Marvel multiverse which, when activated by the Beyonders, destroys each timeline.

Upon learning of this plot,Doom and Earth-616’s Molecule Man travel the multiverse to stave off the Beyonders' plan by killing Molecule Men in various universes. Unbeknownst to Doom, the killing of Molecule Man causes mass incursions and the multiverse begins to deteriorate anyway. This eventually leads Doom to use the Beyonders' power to gather what is left of the Marvel multiverse and create Battleworld, where he rules as God Emperor. This leads toSecret Wars, where the heroes left combine to defeat Doom and the Beyonders to restore the multiverse.

Avengers: Secret Wars: Release Date, Plot Details & Everything We Know

The culmination of phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU will be in Avengers: Secret Wars. Here’s everything to know about the sixth Avengers movie.

Using this format,Deadpool & Wolverinecould tie intoAvengers 5&6by making Anchor Beings the MCU’s equivalent of Molecule Men. After all, the concept is similar. If a Molecule Man is killed in theSecret Warscomics, an incursion is caused and the universe is destroyed; if an Anchor Being dies in the MCU, that timeline begins to decay until it does not exist. InAvengers: Doomsday, it could be explored that Doom has figured out that Anchor Beings were created by the Beyonders, taking on the task of traveling the multiverse to destroy them and save the multiverse from annihilation.

Like Thanos before him, Doom would then be unequivocally a villain, though one who has noble intentions. Where Thanos wanted to wipe out 50% of the universe’s population to ultimately save every planet remaining, Doom would be killing Anchor Beings to stop the Beyonders from destroying the multiverse. At the end ofAvengers: Doomsday, Doom could figure out that killing Anchor Beings has resulted in the destruction of their respective timelines as outlined inDeadpool & Wolverine, creating Battleworld to save what is left and leading intoAvengers: Secret Wars.

The Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday could travel the multiverse after learning of Doom’s plan, attempting to stop him from killing Anchor Beings as they know of its implications.

Anchor Beings Would Allow For Major MCU Cameos In Avengers 5 & 6

If Doom does create Battleworld, it could be the case that the universes he combines are those from Marvel’s cinematic past…

With this story outline forAvengers 5, Marvel Studios would not only craft a compelling villain, a good story, and a gray area conflict in which both Doom and the Avengers are somewhat right but also set upAvengers: Secret Wars.If Doom does create Battleworld, it could be the case that the universes he combines are those from Marvel’s cinematic past. Naturally, the mainline MCU would be one. The others could be Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man universe, Andrew Garfield’s franchise, the FoxX-Mentimeline, whatever timelineThe Fantastic Four: First Stepstakes place in, and any other from Marvel’s extensive cinematic history.

In theSecret Warscomics, Doom uses the power of the Beyonders to craft Battleworld. He could do the same in the MCU by using their power to pull together Anchor Beings and their timelines from across the multiverse after discovering that killing them was the wrong move. Then, heroes like Maguire and Garfield’s Spider-Men, the Fox X-Men, the mainline MCU heroes, and the team fromThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsto name a few, could coalesce on Battleworld. Then, they would all fight against Doom and the Beyonders to restore the multiverse, stemming fromDeadpool & Wolverine’s concept of Anchor Beings.
