One Piecenot covering Arabasta in season 2 is a risky decision, but one clever theory about who will be the main villain until Crocodile shows up solves all my problems with it. Although my initial reaction toOda’sOne Pieceseason 2 announcementwas to ponder how many years it would take for the show to cover the rest of the story, I realized it doesn’t really matter how much is covered in the next season. The fact is that theNetflix live-action showcannot possibly adaptOne Piecein its entirety at a reasonable speed without some major changes.

With over 1000 manga chapters to cover and counting, worrying about how many sagas the Netflix show will get through is not worth it right now. This is whymy biggest problem with the Arabasta decision was not about the pacing but rather about the villains.Saving Arabasta for season 3 means that a lot of teases and setups from season 2 won’t be paid off right away. Additionally, it means thatOne Piecewill have to find a Crocodile replacement– someone who can serve as the big bad for season 2 until the heroes reach Arabasta.

Nico Robin as Miss All Sunday in One Piece.

Nico Robin Will Be The Main Villain Of One Piece Season 2 – Theory Explained

Robin First Appeared As The Baroque Works’ Miss All Sunday

With Crocodile most likely out of the picture until season 3, I predict that Miss All Sunday and the rest of the members of the Baroque Works we meet after entering the Grand Line will be given a bigger role inOne Pieceseason 2. WhileOne Piecedoes not have a lot of overarching villains in the original manga, the Netflix show chose to have a recurring antagonist throughout season 1 – Arlong. Crocodile would be the natural choice to fill this role in season 2, but we now know thatArabasta won’t happen until a potential season 3.

Nico Robin first appeared in 1999’sOne Piece#114.

Netflix’sOne Pieceneeds a character big enough to be the overarching antagonist of season 2.Smoker is a strong candidate, but we’ve already had a Marine officer chasing down the Straw Hat pirates for eight episodes with Garp in season 1. Wapol should be the final antagonist considering thatOne Pieceseason 2 will go until Drum Island, but he may not be compelling enough to be the main villain of the season. The same applies to most members of the Baroque Works, the only exception being Miss All Sunday.

Without Crocodile, There Is No Better Villain For One Piece Season 2 Than Robin

Robin Is Big Enough A Character To Be Season 2’s Main Villain

Nico Robin only runs into the Straw Hat pirates once before they all meet again at Arabasta, meaning that having her as the recurrent villain of season 2 would be a significant change from the source material. That said, from the Straw Hats meeting Garp in East Blue to Arlong replacing Don Krieg at the Baratie,Netflix’sOne Piecehas already shown it is not afraid to make big changes to the manga.I believe Robin would make for a great antagonist in season 2 if given more screen time compared to her anime counterpart in this portion of the story.

Robin could act as a lieutenant of the Baroque Works, answering directly to Crocodile. Even with Arabasta being saved for season 3, Crocodile is still a major threat that Luffy and his friends have to deal with from the moment they meet Princess Vivi. Instead of having the Straw Hats only become a target after Little Garden,One Pieceseason 2 can have Miss All Sunday chasing the heroes down much sooner. As one of the most importantOne Piececharacters, the Netflix show would have no problem giving Robin a bigger role in the Arabasta saga.

Giving Miss All Sunday More Screentime Would Make Robin’s Redemption Even Better

Robin Joins The Crew At The End Of The Arabasta Saga

Robin’s redemption – which, to some extent, is not even a redemption but rather a rescue – is one of the most fascinating storylines inOne Piece. While its conclusion only happens a few arcs later with Water 7 and Enies Lobby, Robin joining the Straw Hats is a very special moment in the series. It shows that Luffy is willing to help anyone in need and has no problem welcoming people aboard his ship, even if they were once enemies. In the anime, the rest of the crew cannot believe they’re being joined by a former ally of Crocodile.

After One Piece & Naruto, The Next Hollywood Live-Action Anime Should Be Obvious

After the success of Netflix’s One Piece and the announcement of a Naruto movie, Hollywood’s next live-action anime adaptation is a no-brainer.

By having Miss All Sunday be a major threat throughout the entirety of season 2, Netflix’sOne Piececan make her redemption at the end of season 3 even more significant. Writing Robin as the overarching antagonist of season 2 would also be a clever way of giving a fan favorite more screen time sooner. With names like Ace and Crocodile potentially only showing up in season 3, it would make sense forOne Pieceto focus on Vivi, Robin, and Chopper as the most important newcomers in season 2.
