Recently, there have been some odd choices for remasters and remakes for thePlayStation 5, with Sony turning to its recent hits rather than its classics of old. The latest PlayStation remaster wasHorizon Zero Dawnand, although both the original game and its sequel were huge successes, theremaster has struggledby comparison. AHorizon Zero Dawnremaster always felt like an odd choice, given that the original game still looks great and can be played on all the same platforms its remaster can, and it’s now evident that it was the wrong choice.
Instead of remastering/remaking games that do not need the extra love,PlayStation could put the currently quiet Bluepoint games to work on a title that players want remade. Bluepoint has been known for remaking titles, and although it started with theUncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, theShadow of the Colossusremake is what put the studio on the map with its incredible visuals. TheDemon’s Soulsremake consolidated the studio as a developer with a knack for great visuals, and another title remake could keep the momentum going for another hit, possibly for the PS6.

Sly Cooper Deserves A BluePoint Remake
Sly Cooper Has Performed Well On PS5
10 Upcoming Xbox Exclusives That Could Come To PS5
With the new Indiana Jones game coming to PlayStation 5, there is a handful of other Xbox-exclusive games that might also make the transition.
There is clearly enough appeal forSly Cooperto get some Bluepoint love, especially since its last two titles,Shadow of the ColossusandDemon’s Souls, both had a greater reputation than playerbase.Sly Cooperis in this same category, and a Bluepoint remake with amazing visuals would be a title that many would visit due to the series' reputation as one of the best classics around. It could even start something of a revival for theSly Cooperfranchise, should PlayStation want to bring it back.

Bluepoint was founded in 2006 by former members of theMetroid Primeengineering team.
One issue that could present itself with aSly Cooperremake, especially with Bluepoint games, is the cel-shaded, stylized aesthetic. Bluepoint has only shown that it can make ultra-realistic games, andwhile it has remained true to the art design of the original titles, realism is the point of its remakes. The studio could see making a stylized game more expressive than ever as a challenge, but rising to that challenge would prove that it can do more than just a realistic aesthetic. It would help the studio with another classic if it decides to go that way.

PlayStation Needs To Remake More Of Its Classics
There Are Plenty Of Games To Choose From Instead
IfSly Cooperisn’t seen as the best move for Bluepoint, even with its success in the PlayStation store, there are plenty of classics to choose from rather than producing something like anotherLast of Usremake. Should PlayStation want to keep riding on current success,aGod of Wartrilogy remake could be the right moveto give those who have only played the Norse Saga a look at the young, angry Kratos. Those games are meant to look more realistic and would, in theory, be squarely in Bluepoint’s wheelhouse.
With the Norse Saga finishing withGod of War Ragnarök, there have been many other mythologies mentioned in the universe that the series could go to, with Egyptian Mythology being a popular choice among the fan base.

Another PS2 classicthat could get the Bluepoint treatment isJak and Daxter, which, likeSly Cooper, has also found itself on the PlayStation store. It is stylized as well, but not to the same degree thatSly Cooperis, and it has the reputation one would expect of a title worthy of a remake.Jak and Daxteris another title that has remained dormant for some time despite how beloved the original titles are, and while Naughty Dog is busy with its other IPs, Bluepoint could swoop in to work on a remake instead.
One Of 2024’s Best Switch Games Is Finally Coming To PlayStation In December
An indie game that blows away plenty of major releases is gaining a new platform, and it’s well worth paying attention to this standout.
Titles of this era or earlier should be what PlayStation should look at for its remakesand remasters. UnlikeHorizon Zero Dawn Remastered, these games could really benefit from a proper graphical upgrade since enough time has passed for them to look dated. Classics likeJak and DaxterandSly Cooper, haven’t been given much love in a long time, despite their dedicated fans asking for anything in the way of remasters, remakes, or new entries. A remake for these would seem more like PlayStation listening to its audience rather than trying to milk a current franchise for more cash.

Why Bloodborne Needs Something Other Than A Remake
A Remake Wouldn’t Get It On PC
When it comes to discussing remasters and remakes for PlayStation,Bloodborneis a title that almost always comes up, and for good reason. FromSoftware titles have been a hot topic for a remarkably long time, and the studio has won two GOTY awards withSekiroandElden Ring, with the possibility of winning another withShadow of the Erdtree, and many have been asking forBloodborneon PC. Unfortunately, a Bluepoint remake probably isn’t what would get the game on PC.
PlayStation’s Latest Move Shows Its Finally Catching Up With Xbox & Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass has been consistently ahead of PlayStation Plus in one key regard, but Sony’s service is making a big leap that tightens the race.
Withthe PlayStation 5 era being defined by its cinematic, single-player titles, likeGod of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us Part 2,andSpider-Man 2,it makes sense that Sony wants to push this with its remakes and remasters. IfHorizon Zero Dawn Remasteredproves anything, however, it’s that the strategy isn’t working, andPlayStationshould be looking at its classics instead. These games have a dedicated fan base, a strong reputation, and enough time between their release and now to warrant a remake, withSly Cooperin particular standing out as a good choice for a meaty update.
