Today’s Connections Category Hints

FEBRUARY 20 #620

I stared at this one for a little while, but I was eventually able to piece it together. There were several words that I initially thought went in the same category that I later realized I was wrong about.I also got one category completely by accident, but I was not mad about it at all. To help you get there without the surprise, here are some hints.

5 Letter Words Wordle Hasn’t Used Yet (Updated Daily)

Wordle, the popular word-guessing game hosted by The New York Times, has over 1,700 words remaining as possible solutions.

If you are still in the market for some hints, you can find them in thecategory names, or you can skip straight to the spoilers.

The words

SIGNAL

SOS

This was the first one I got but it was a bit of a struggle. I was looking at ROOSTER and SUNRISE as possible words in this category and even SLEEP as well. This is because they are all sort of considered “alarms”and the word SLEEP is on an alarm. This is often aConnectionscategory or theme, so it was a bit of a challenge to separate. However, when I saw SOS I realized it was about a “rescue” alert and not necessarily an alarm clock, which then led me to victory.

SLEEP

STAY

Once I figured the first category out, I was well on my way to getting this one as well. That is because all of these words often mean something to do with sleep. When you CRASH or BUNK at a friend’s house, it’s often because you are too far from home. However, SLEEP and STAY imply that it was planned ahead of time more than with the others. It’s an interesting thing to think about the differences between the wordsafter you connect them together and figure out where the nuance is.

12 Letter Boxed Strategies To Win Quickly

The Letter Boxed game for the New York Times mobile app asks you to connect letters to form words while using various strategies to win quickly.

SUNRISE

WORM

I love this category and I think it is just a fun, relaxing category. I love a good SUNRISE, and it’s one of the things I miss about being an early morning barista. I don’t really like early mornings, but I do appreciate a beautiful sunrise and a good view of it. I don’t appreciate a ROOSTER crowing and waking me up, but otherwise, this category makes me very happy. Even a WORM making its way up from the ground reminds me of the smell of fresh dirt, which is oddly soothing.

TRIANGLE

UMBRELLA

This one I actually got second to last, and I have no idea how. I was looking at the last 8 words, and I noticed that 3 of them were shapes. Only UMBRELLA was at all in a similar vein, so I chose that one and was laughing at myself before I saw the words form together and create a category. I was shocked, and I have to admit I have never watched the showbecause I don’t have Netflix and I didn’t know that “Game” was singular. No one I know doesn’t put an “s” on it.
