Today’s Connections Category Hints
OCTOBER 31 #508
If you want to test out your wits and try solving the puzzle with just a few hints first, now is your chance. Today’s puzzle has a lot of words that are all associated with Halloween in some form or fashion, butmany of them are not actually in the same category. You will have to figure out where to draw the line and what makes them distinct from each other, and if you do not know some very specific lore, you might not get one of the harder categories.
10 Strands Strategies To Quickly Solve The Theme
Strands is one of New York Times' many puzzle games that consists of a unique 6x8 word search that requires players to use zig-zag solutions.
If you still need some help sorting out these spooky-themed words, here are the category names.

___ HUNT
PUMPKIN
TREASURE
This was not the first category I got, but it was a close second. This one did not feel as challenging, despite the inclusion of PUMPKIN. This was because Isaw LOVE and DARLING and wondered what else might go with them. I have heard a lot of people nickname someone they love PUMPKIN, so that was actually the easier word to add in. TREASURE was a lot more difficult, and I am not sure I would actually find that term endearing, but I understand why others would.
FLUTTER
WINK
Strangely enough, I did get this category first. I zoomed into this one because of BLINK and FLUTTER, and I very quickly added in WINK. I found this one easierperhaps because these are the only words that are very clearly verbs, and when I looked for the final word, I realized that BAT was the only option left. This made it easier to solve this one today, and despite the somewhat strange wording of the category name, I actually liked this one.

The Spelling Bee puzzles created as a New York Times game build a streak of correct answers to get you more points, but they can be hard to keep.
SPIDER
VIPER
I said, “This is hard,” out loud while looking at the final eight words as I was trying to solve this one. I stared at the options for a few minutes, unsure what was going on with the final ones. In the end, I guessed DIABLO, SPIDER, and VIPER were in a single category with WITCH to see what happened. Seeing that I was one away, I glanced at the remaining words and decided to swap out WITCH for MUSTANG on a whim. Then I immediately asked the first person I couldif SPIDER was really a car or not.
SCAVENGER
WITCH
Luckily, this was the final category and one I no longer had to worry about after I got the last one.It was a close call, and I had no idea that any of the previous words were cars except for MUSTANG and VIPER, and I had to think pretty hard about the second one. EGG is also funny here, as it references an entirely different holiday. “Job hunt” just reminds me how hard it is to complete these days, and they areprobably the scariest words in this puzzle.
