10 Best Connections Tips, Tricks, & Strategies
Four categories with four words each sounds simple, but the daily challenge of the Connections game can prove difficult without a few tips to help.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
AUGUST 27 #442
If the spiciness is not too hot right now, you might still want to solve the puzzle on your own. You can use some of these hints to kick your brain in gear and see if that’s enough to solve the puzzle:
If that is still not enough, don’t despair as we still have some tips and tricks for you, this time in the form of category names. Often this is enough for many to figure out which words go where, but if not, we have the rest of the answers in the next section with explanations and comments on how the words are pieced together.

ROAR
THUNDER
This one makes sense and likely is the first category most people get. For some reason, today my weird brain somehow guessed one of the other categories first on a bit of a whim. That being said, all of thesewords are associated with explosive-like noisesand can make events like July 4th confusing if you are not sure what kind of BOOM it actually is. Luckily, it is usually just fireworks making the THUNDER-like noise.
KICK
SPICE
Again, somehow my brain bypassed this category as well, even though it feels obvious when I am looking at it now. That being said, there have been plenty ofConnectionspuzzles where I see the answers and immediately wonder why I did not see them, so perhaps that’s just how it is.
Either way, this is the SPICE-filled category today, all about the level of HEAT you can expect from biting into one of these chili peppers. I would not recommend immediately jumping for the hottest.

8 Vertex Strategies To Quickly Solve The Picture
The New York Times Vertex game asks you to form a picture by connecting dots, but you have to understand the image to solve this puzzle quickly.
CLIPPERS
GEL
This is the category my brain decided to just randomly solve and I was guessing more on autopilot than anything else. I was pleased to discover that my random notion thatthis could be nail-salon relatedactually paid off, even if I was wrong about the type of salon it was. This is somewhat surprising considering I have not been in a barbershop at all in quite some time, but I have been before so perhaps my brain was reminding me of that.
SET
TAROT
The word in this puzzle that I feel doesn’t belong is SET. While you can have a “set of cards” it is not anactualkindof card in the way the other three are. The other three are very specific kinds of cards, and SET could definitely ruin a lot of puzzlers' days. Regardless, the editor obviously feels differently from me, even though the other three seem more obvious than the typical purple-category words.
