If you looked at today’sConnectionspuzzle and felt overwhelmed, you are definitely not alone. I blinked at the puzzle when it first loaded a couple of times and was not sure if I was going to be able to solve it. However, taking a deep breath and re-settingcan help you get through to the end, and I did not lose my streak today. With the following tips and tricks, I can help you maintain your streak as well with a nice, clean victory.

If you have not yet checked out the other popularpuzzle from the NYT known asWordle, then you should give it a chance at least once. While this is a word puzzle, you are only focused on one word as opposed to sixteen. This means you will have to break down the components of that word, looking mostly at letter placement, as opposed to breaking down multiple words. It can be a fun comparison to try, and it has the same itch-scratching challenge to it.

Today’s Connections Category Hints

DECEMBER 02 #540

Beginning to break down this puzzle will be hard at first, but there are ways to break it down. You will want to look for something unique, given that there are a bunch of different words that all look both connected and completely isolated at the same time. This method will likely put your focus on POLO PLAYER and WHAC-A-MOLE as the most unique words, which is a good start. To keep that good start going, use the following hints:

8 NYT Tiles Strategies To Score Huge Combos

The Tiles game for the New York Times mobile app asks you to use various strategies to pair matching visual patterns together to build huge combos.

If those hints are not enough for you, we still have all of the spoilers to go. First off, here are the category namesthat you can use to help you figure things out.

___ CLIP

HERALD

TRUMPET

If you want to announce something, these are four ways to do so. I didn’t get this one first, mainly because I was not absolutely certain that that’s what the subject of the category was. However, after doing some introspection and eliminating LAUREL from the options by solving a different category,I was in a better place to put these four words together. It did take me a moment to spot BROADCAST, but mainly because I was playing on my phone and it made the word weirdly small.

WHAC-A-MOLE

XYLOPHONE

I got this one second to last, and I realized what it must be after looking at XYLOPHONE and WHAC-A-MOLE for maybe too long. It was partially because they were right next to each other in the puzzle for me at that point, which made it easier to associate them with each otherand to think about how they could possibly be similar. After that, it dawned on me and I put CROQUET in with the others. Adding in CARPENTRY was a little harder, but I got there in the end.

10 Best Connections Tips, Tricks, & Strategies

Four categories with four words each sounds simple, but the daily challenge of the Connections game can prove difficult without a few tips to help.

POLO PLAYER

SWOOSH

This is actually the category I got first,as SWOOSH stood out to me as something unique. POLO PLAYER was also quite unique, and putting those two together made me realize they were both logos. It was not hard to add in LAUREL at that point, but getting to CROCODILE was much harder. Many of the words in this puzzle have been used as logos before, so figuring out why it was that one was the hardest part. However, I figured I could guess at least once, andby some fortune my first guess was correct. Another sports category conquered!

PAPER

VIDEO

This last category is all about different types of clips, one of which is not physical. I didn’t even really attempt to figure out what this category or the words in it were connecting to,beyond trying to figure out if ALLIGATOR was in the category with some of the other animals, particularly its closest cousin. When I had figured out that it wasn’t, I just kind of ignored it until the end of the puzzle and was able to select all of these words at once and see the victory screen.
