With the movie on the release schedule for 2026, the latest news arrives in the form offootage fromVerityat 2025’s CinemaCon. Amazon MGM had a panel at the annual movie preview event, and they set aside some time to reveal the first footage from the Colleen Hoover adaptation. Unfortunately,the teaser hasn’t been released to the public at large, butScreenRantwas in attendance at CinemaCon and has offered a full description. The footage introduces the main characters and their relationships, and offers a brief tease of the darker elements of the story.

The teaser begins with Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway meeting each other in a bar, and Hartnett hitting on her. She turns him down. We cut to a shot of her presumably paraplegic. We then see Anne dreaming, seeing a version of herself that’s darker and more sinister. It ends on a cop asking Dakota Johnson’s character, “Are you by any chance working on the next Verity book?” She responds, “It’ll be the best one yet.”

Though the film adaptation had been in development since 2020, things really took off when the movie landed at Amazon MGM Studios in 2024. The screenplay is penned by Nick Antosca (Channel Zero), and the movie is directed by Michael Showalter, who also helmed the Anne Hathaway hitThe Idea of Youin 2024. Principal photography began in February 2025, andAmazon MGM has now given the adaptation a July 01, 2025, release date. The release date could change in the intervening months, but late spring should work well for the romantic thriller.

Anne Hathaway Leads An All-Star Ensemble
As befitting a potential blockbuster, the cast ofVerityis a star-studded affair despite being mostly incomplete. Fresh off of her success inThe Idea of You,Anne Hathaway has been tapped to play the role of the mysterious titular author, Verity Crawford. Joining Hathaway isJosh Hartnett as Verity’s husband, Jeremy, who begins a romantic relationship with Lowen Ashleigh, who is brought in to complete Verity’s final novel. Rounding out the main cast,Dakota Johnson will play the role of Lowen, and she’s no stranger to leading controversial romance adaptations after starring in theFifty Shadesseries.
Several other names are attached to the project in supporting roles, but nothing is known about who they will be playing.
Ismael Cruz Córdova (The Rings of Power), theater actor Brady Wagner, ballet dancer Irina Dvorovenko, K.K. Moggie (The Good Wife), and Michael Abbott Jr. (The Drama) will all appear inVerity, and more details are expected soon. Additionally, it stands to reason that several other stars will join the film, but it’s impossible to guess who that will be for now.
