“I’d really love to see her exploring college and entering adulthood because I feel like the three pivotal moments in our lives are childhood, teenhood, and then adult. Going from a teenager to an adult is so different. I’m not there yet - I just turned 16 the other day, so I’m on the brink of that - but a lot of my friends are older and are in college. They’re experiencing different changes, like being away from home and living on their own. I think that would be a really unique storyline for Inside Out 3. Fingers crossed!”

How Riley Going Off To College Impacts Inside Out 3

What Emotions Could That Bring?

There is only a two-year age gap betweenInside Outand its 2024 follow-up. In the original movie, Riley was 11 and moved from Minnesota to California, and when she started high school, she struggled a bit, especially once Anxiety took over. Sending Riley to college forInside Out 3requires a larger time-lapse and other emotions, some of which would likely have been introduced years prior. Becausethere were emotions cut fromInside Out 2, including Awe, it’s possible that college could bring them out, or establish romance, loneliness, and other new ones.

There have been 10 emotions depicted inInside OutandInside Out 2.

IfInside Out 3doesn’t revolve around Riley at college, it could always follow her through high school graduation, as she prepares to head off, instead. College is definitely a major step in growing up,and there are a lot ofInside Outaudiences who may resonate with that kind of story.Given the emotions represented in both movies, there would be room for Anxiety and Embarrassment again, but Riley also gained confidence nearthe end ofInside Out 2. However, with young audiences in mind, watching the character reach that point in her life may not be as entertaining.

7 Stages Of Riley’s Life That Could Be Explored In Inside Out 3

Pixar’s Inside Out and its sequel, Inside Out 2, have covered everything from moving to puberty, but Riley has many more life stages worth exploring.

Whether college gets portrayed inInside Out 3remains unknown, but it does beg the question of what exactly the next sequel will be about. Should Pixar decide to make another film, the character of Riley will be older than 13, and whatever life stage she’s in, there will likely be more emotions that come with it.
