A scene inTerrifier 3made Art the Clown’s actor David Howard Thornton sick on set, and the sequence sounds even worse while filming. The gruesome nature of theTerrifiermovies have a history of making viewers feel queasy, and that trend continued with the third film. Reports ofTerrifier 3making audiences throw upcirculated before the film’s release, as sequences like the opening scene and shower kill scene were pinpointed as some of the nastiest moments. However, even during production, word got out that David Howard Thornton gotsick filmingTerrifier 3due to a particularly gross scene.

The tease of Thornton’s reaction to a particular moment inTerrifier 3began with a tweet from director Damien Leone. He described a day on set filming"one of the most insanely horrific scenes"in the franchise, and while he didn’t name the Art the Clown actor in particular, he suggested as much by saying,“you’ll never believe who couldn’t handle it on set"with a throwing up emoji accompanying it. This left a major question about what scene was so bad to film that even Art the Clown’s actor felt unwell while filming it.

Aunt Jess' Death In Terrifier 3 Made David Howard Thornton Sick While Filming

Art’s Actor Confirmed Jess' Death Was The Worst To Film

Aunt Jess dies in a particularly gnarly sequence that ranks among themost brutalTerrifier 3deaths. She is strapped to a chair and has her jaw broken as Art and Vicky open it wide enough to stick a large clear tube down her throat. They then forced big rats down the tube and into her body, leaving them squirming, scratching, and clawing as they tried to find a way out. Jess is vomiting throughout the sequence, and her death comes shortly after as her neck is cut open.

The Art the Clown actor was part of aTerrifier 3panel at the Nightmare Weekend horror convention in Richmond, Virginia and used it to confirm that this scene made him sick on set. As shared byHalloween Daily News, Thornton mentioned that he can’t stand vomit, so Aunt Jess' vomit during her death scene is what made him nearly puke himself. The actor even said that Damien Leone knows how much he doesn’t like throw up and believes the scene was included in part to test his limits.

Terrifier 3’s Production Made Aunt Jess' Death Worse On Set Than In The Movie

There’s Elements On Set That The Movie Can’t Replicate

While the use of vomit in Aunt Jess' death scene made it difficult for Thornton, the conditions ofTerrifier 3’s set made the scene even worse to film than how it looks in the final edit. Thornton mentions that the house was very hot the day they filmed that scene and the smell from the fake vomit concoction was unbearable. Those two elements are unique to being on set ofTerrifier 3, as the heat and smells associated with the scene do not translate to audiences. It’s no wonder David Howard Thornton almost puked filming theTerrifier 3scene.
