Summary

One of Pixar’s many traditions is to feature the Pizza Planet truck in each of the animation studio’s movies, and nowInside Out 2has continued that tradition in an especially creative way. The Pizza Planet truck made its debut in 1995’sToy StoryasWoody and Buzz Lightyearrode in the vehicle to arrive at the Pizza Planet where Andy was headed. While the iconic yellow truck played an important role inToy Story’s plot, it has become more of a subtle Easter egg since then.

ThroughoutPixar’s 28 feature films, the Pizza Planet truck has appeared in every single one, with 2004’sThe Incrediblesbeing the only exception. Due to the unique settings of Pixar’s various films, the truck does not always appear as an actual vehicle, withBravebeing the first to break this trend by including the Easter egg as a wooden carving, since the story takes place in 10th-century Scotland. Despite largely taking place in Riley’s mind,Inside Out 2still found a clever way to incorporate the Pizza Planet truck into its story.

7 Upcoming Animated Movies That Could Break Inside Out 2’s $1.5 Billion Box Office Record

Inside Out 2 has been a massive box office success, but there are several upcoming animated movies that could surpass its box office numbers.

WhichInside Out 2Scene Includes The Pizza Planet Truck?

The Pizza Planet Truck Appears Before Anxiety & The Other New Emotions Are Introduced

The Pizza Planet truck inInside Out 2can be spotted next to Joy’s bedearly in the film. Instead of being an actual truck, it is an origami truck that can be spotted on a table next to Joy’s bed, where she is happily asleep. This scene takes place directly before Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger are woken by an unfamiliar sound, which leads to the demolition of Headquarters, and the introductions of Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui.

Since the Pizza Planet truck appears multiple times in the firstInside Outvia Riley’s memory orbs, Pizza Planet and its trademark yellow vehicles seem to exist in Riley’s world. This means that the origami truck Joy has by her bed is likely based on actual memories of Riley’s and is not something Joy created purely through her imagination. Pizza Planet existing in Riley’s world could have intriguing implications forPixar’s shared universe theory, which posits that all Pixar films take place within the same universe and continuity despite the vastly different settings and characters within each story.

It Is A Worthy Continuation Of A Pixar Tradition

BetweenBrave’swooden truck carvingandInside Out 2’s origami truck, some of the other particularly creative inclusions are it beinga tattoo on a carnival worker’s leg inToy Story 4, an artifact inSoul’s Hall of Everything, and a boat floating past Wade’s buildingin the Water District inElemental. Of course, the truck played a more prominent role inToy Story 2when Buzz and the other toys drive it to tail Al on his way to the airport. Most frequently, it has appeared as an actual truck and without playing a major role in the story.

The Pizza Planet truck scene inToy Story 2is when Mr. Potato Head saves the three alien toys' lives, leading them to be later adopted by Mrs. and Mr. Potato Head.
