Summary

A first look atStar Wars’ next movie,The Mandalorian & Grogu, was shown to fans at Disney’s D23, and the footage showed the return ofDin Djarin’s ship, the Razor Crest. The iconic ship was initially introduced inThe Mandalorianseason 1, quickly becoming a staple in the show that was synonymous with Din Djarin. Additionally, the Razor Crest is one of thecoolest ships in all ofStar Wars. Before the rise of the Empire, it served as a military patrol ship; however, Din Djarin converted it to adapt to his lifestyle as a bounty hunter.

I’ve always thought that one of the coolest things about Din Djarin was his ship. It became a staple inThe Mandalorianand was part of some of his best moments. BecauseDin Djarin was a foundling, he didn’t really have a home world to go back to, and after Mandalore was seemingly destroyed, the Razor Crest was truly his home in every sense. It was also where he had several heartwarming scenes with Grogu, and where we got to see them form a bond that would prove to be one of the strongest in all ofStar Wars.

Everything We Know About The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie

The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.

The Razor Crest’s Destruction Completely Changed Din Djarin

And He Hasn’t Been The Same Since

The Mandalorianseason 2, episode 6 “Chapter 14: The Tragedy” showed Din Djarin taking Grogu to theplanet Tythonto attempt to use the Force to get the attention of other Jedi in the galaxy. While there, Moff Gideon’s forces arrived and captured Din Djarin’s small green companion - and destroyed the Razor Crest. The majority of Din Djarin’s belongings were lost in the destruction, with only hisbeskarstaff and Grogu’s favorite toy being recoveredby the bounty hunter.

It can also be argued that Din Djarin never went back to “normal” inThe Mandalorianseason 3 either.

The destruction of the Razor Crest was truly a turning point for Din Djarin. In the final two episodes ofThe Mandalorianseason 2, Djarin became fairly erratic and even broke hisMandalorian Creedmultiple times to find Grogu. It can also be argued that Din Djarin never went back to “normal” inThe Mandalorianseason 3 either. This may be one of the reasons whyThe Mandalorianseason 3 is widely regarded as the worst of the show - because Din Djarin was forced to change following the destruction of the Razor Crest.

The Crest’s Return Means The Return Of The Mandalorian’s True Spirit

The Mandalorian & Grogu Needs To Return to Form

While plot details are still sparse,The Mandalorian & Grogusneak peek featured images of the Razor Crest, meaning somehow the ship is back. While it’s likely not Din Djarin’s original ship, I’m ecstatic to see theRazor Crest has returned. Metaphorically, the Razor Crest’s return may also signal thatThe Mandalorian & Groguwill bring back the feeling we had when watchingThe Mandalorianseasons 1 and 2.

Seeing a return to that quality of storytelling is key for this movie to be a success, and with it beingStar Wars’ first movie since 2019, it’s more important than ever to get Din Djarin’s character right. I believe a good starting point would be to get rid of Din Djarin’sNaboo N-1 Starfighterand get back to his roots with the Razor Crest. If Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau can promise this,The Mandalorian & Groguis sure to go over well with audiences.

The Mandalorian & Groguis expected to premiere in theaters July 03, 2025.
