World of Warcraftis gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and it plans to do it in style. Blizzard Entertainment has a huge event planned for the occasion, including new and revamped content and plenty of in-game activities. The event will feature many nostalgic names and locations, and fun new ways for players to interact with them.
Among the most exciting news isthe return of Blackrock Depths. The latest WoWCast on theWorld of WarcraftYouTube reveals that thepopular dungeon fromWoW Classicwill be returning as a 10–15 person raid.

The raid will have eight main bosses, five mini-bosses, LFR integration, and two difficulty levels: Normal and Heroic. Both players and the WoWCast hosts have been reminiscing about their experiences in Blackrock Depths, which inevitably included a lot of dying. Fans are both thrilled and terrified at the prospect of returning to the many-hours-long raid, especially on a higher difficulty.

Celebrate The New With A Visit To The Old
Players who aren’t prepared to sink hours of their time into the Blackrock Depths raid will be able to celebrate the game’s anniversary in other ways. More event highlights were shared by the WoWCast, many of which contain heavy nods to the past.Players will also be able to revisit past locations through some classic Dungeon timewalking, including Deadmines, Zul’Farrak, Dire Maul, and Stratholme.
An outdoor in-game event will be held to revisit the opening of the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, led by the character Chromie. Players can expect to find many odd occurrences dealing with time, like enemies popping up from different areas and times that should not exist, such as Kel’Thuzad.

Players can claim two weekly caches of Epic gear by completing certain quests in World of Warcraft: The War Within if they know what to look out for.
The team also plans to refresh vendor stock and rewards with new items, outfits, and mounts, as well as modernized Tier 2 Transmog sets. Other activities are scheduled, including a Fashion Frenzy event that will let players show off and vote on their favorite styles, interactive storytelling performances, a Mount Mania game where players can show off their mount collection, a cosplay experience where players can dress up like characters from the past, and much more.

TheWorld of Warcraft20th anniversary event was originally going to be just a one-off event, but the team had so many ideas that it has evolved into an entire dedicated patch. Patch 11.0.5 will be completely focused on the anniversary event and will run for two months, to allow players plenty of time to experience all the celebratory content. The 20th anniversary patchhasn’t received a release date inWoW’s 2024 roadmapyet, but the video states that it’s “coming very, very soon.”
