Xboxplayers desperate to get their hands on moreFinal Fantasytitles are in luck becausethe franchise is looking at Microsoft’s console with new opportunities in mind. In recent years, theFinal Fantasyseries has largely neglected Xbox as a platform, favoring the likes of PC and PlayStation for high-profile releases likeFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeandFinal Fantasy 14 Online. With the latter finally landing on Xbox Game Pass in March of this year, many hoped this debut would be a watershed moment for other games to arrive on the console.

Speaking toEurogamer,Final Fantasy 14director and producer Naoki Yoshida explained thatSquare Enix does view the MMO’s Xbox launch as an opportunity, hinting that the publisher wants to place more focus on PlayStation’s rival. Yoshida confirms that Square Enix is moving towards releasing its games “on a multiplatform basis,” promising that there will be moreFinal Fantasyreleases on Xbox. No solid plans were confirmed but it’s good to know thatFinal Fantasywill soon be more accessible to players outside the PlayStation and PC ecosystems.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail: An Expectation That Still Surprises

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is a change of pace for the popular MMO, but it’s a refreshing expansion at this point in its decade-long lifespan.

Final Fantasy 14 Is The First Step

Final Fantasy 7 Is The End Goal

Final Fantasyhas tied a great deal of its brand identity to PlayStation given the strong affiliations consumers have between the brands, no doubt because of the mainstream success ofFinal Fantasy 7in 1997. That connection has never waned as although Xbox does feature manyFinal Fantasytitles, the bulk of the series' new releases are still unavailable on Microsoft’s console. With the recent news that 2023’sFinal Fantasy 16will be coming to PC in September, many were disappointed to learn that an Xbox port is still nowhere to be seen.

Yet with Yoshida specifyingFinal Fantasy 14’s Xbox launch as a “starting point,” it seems that Xbox may finallybe a priority for Square Enix. Whether it will be enough to havethe crown jewel ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeand its sequelRebirthtrade in their PlayStation console exclusivityfor a multiplatform approach remains to be seen. With that in mind, the fact thatRemakeis currently available on PC suggests that there’s a chance an Xbox port could be a realityat some point in the future.

It could be the case thatSquare Enix plans to initially have theFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeTrilogy briefly exclusive on PlayStationbeforebringing them all over to Xboxat the same time. That’s pure speculation, but selling a bundle deal to consumers who have never had the opportunity to play such critically acclaimed titles could be a major selling point. In any case, moreFinal Fantasyon Xbox is a win for everyone.
