The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomhas a lot of useful accessories for Zelda to equip, but there’s really only one choice for the one she should be using most of the time. Although most of the outfits inEchoes of Wisdomare simply cosmetic, accessories are anything but,providing useful buffs to core attributesand abilities. From increasing her swim speed to preventing the effects of quicksand, these trinkets can manage a lot, even if some effects are more applicable to specific areas and boss fights than to the game as a whole.
Zelda starts out with only one accessory slot inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and although this can eventually change, the game instills the concept of choosing wisely early on. In the first few regions of the game, there’s an argument to be made that the best accessory choice is a toss-up, and whatever feels the best for any situation probably won’t be a terrible choice. Verticality is the name of the game inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and nothing serves that purpose better than the Frog Ring.While Zelda can only jump the height of half a block by default, the Frog Ring doubles that, giving her the ability to jump up on platforms as tall as she is in a single bound. This change can make some platforming segments easier, but more importantly, it cuts out a lot of fiddling with echoes that would otherwise be serving to step her up to the same heights.
The Frog Ring can be found during the quest Still Missing in one of the treasure chests flanking the chest holding the main dungeon key, so although it’s technically possible to leave it behind, it’s notably hard to miss.
Experimenting with echoes can be a lot of fun, but using them for something as mundane as jumping a single block usually isn’t, and getting the Frog Ring clarifies just how much time Zelda is saving by avoiding that.One Acorn Gathering challengethat tasks Zelda with quickly grabbing acorns can be easily completed in a fraction of the allotted time simply thanks to the Frog Ring, which trivializes all the essential jumps.Even towering heights are more efficiently scaled with the Frog Ring, since Zelda can slam down a Flatboomand jump onto it with no steps in between.

On paper, the Frog Ring isn’t necessarily any more powerful than other good accessories inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, but it’s the only one that so directly addresses the nature of the game’s challenges. Although the Ancient Charm that reduces damage can be great in the game’smore challenging boss fights, especially when upgraded to the powerful Curious Charm, it’s hard to argue that it’s anywhere near as essential.Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomoffers extensive health upgrades and plenty of ways to regain hearts, so damage is rarely a massive concern outside of Hero Mode.

The second big choice of destination in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom can be overwhelming, so it’s worth examining every option at hand.
Beyond that,it’s often wise to rotate accessories depending on the environment at hand. The Stone Anklet’s knockback reduction is nice if Zelda is fighting enemies on narrow platforms, and the Charging Horn is worthwhile to increase the damage her mount can do whenever she’s on horseback. Accessories largely follow a similar dynamic to echoes, where part of the puzzle is simply paying attention to the strengths or weaknesses found in whatever Zelda’s current surroundings are.
It’s perfectly possible to play throughThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomwithout ever using the Frog Ring, and refusing to trivialize small jumps can occasionally make puzzles more interesting. When it comes to efficiency, however, there’s no doubt about the fact that the Frog Ring greases the wheels of the adventure in a way that no other accessory quite manages.The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomis a substantial journey, but it’s possible to cut some of the fat by slipping a single ring on Zelda’s finger.
